Tip 1 - You improved use of Noise Reduction/Restoration to the point where my results had improved and I was happy to publish. Tip 2 - You validated my opinion of DeNoise. Tip 3 - You blew my mind and transformed how I'll edit audio from this moment on. All of that, and I haven't even finished watching. Seriously. There's still 50s left until the end of the video. Excellent content. No gatekeeping knowledge, no boring and unnecessary introduction. This should be the standard for all instructional content going forward. Subscribed and notified. I'm going to finish this edit, then spend the rest of the day watching your content. Thanks Mike. Genuinely appreciate the assist.

i have a very different trick for this.... DJ software such as virtual dj and serato, now have voice isolation filters using AI which is trained to identify human voice. the tech has come a LONG way now ,and its almost perfect. it also can be used for instruments, bass and percussion, but for videography we usually just need the voice. so you can put the audio in there, and remove everything except the human voice, and then record that as a new file and then mix it with some of the original noisy file if you want. only issue it has is that if the background noise is due to people talking, then it will also keep those bakground voices too. i dont think adobe have anything like this yet.. but this is where its headed i believe ,and this will be a much handier way to do it than the 3 ways mentioned in the video here.

Hi Mike. Another great video. I pretty much always head straight for option 3 and the noise gate, also cranking up the hold to stop words being clipped. Seems to work for larger projects such as our podcasts and makes the workflow easier. Sometimes analysing the whole recording first of all to get a cut off level to start at. Love your videos and have pretty much learnt all about Audition through your videos.

Thank you sooo much! I struggled with the DeNoise effect in Premiere Pro and tried various other effects to fix the voice, but it never came out right. The Noise Reduction effect in Audition fixed the entire sound in a few seconds. I thought it was a lot more complicated and that I would need to adjust various values, but Audition is really great for sound. Once again, I was convinced of the truth of the sentence that every Adobe tool should be used for its intended purpose.

Glad to have helped. Naturally you want to be recording in the quiestest possible environment as while these methods can reduce noise they also reduce audio quality too. Certainly if you're having to use all three at the same time then you need to think about where you're recording and lower the noise floor.
@shameerali2188

@@MikeRussell Hey just to clarify i do not use all three at the same time, i will choose one of the method depending on the level of the noise reduction needed. in most cases audio clips recorded by someone else are sent to me for noise treatment befor use in video or audio production, as for mie i'm always looking for the best posible enviroment to record when i have to.

I like to use a program that extracts vocals from mastered tracks, though they doesn't always come out clear like a studio acapella would (obviously). The more instruments/elements (kick, bass, drum, etc.) there are behind the vocals, the less clear and harder to extract they are. Is it possible to make a video on at least sharpening those vocals, or "bringing them forward" so to speak? Normally I'd go into the Parametric Equalizer but I feel there's probably a better way. Would love to hear your take on it.
@MikeRussell

Isolating vocals from an already mixed and mastered track will never provide clean vocals. The only option is to source and acapella if you need a perfect version.

I usually go for the first option, but of late - nothing has changed set-up wise - after applying the noise reduction, the audio sounds like I’m speaking through a tin can! I’ve tried removing and re-installing the Focusrite driver as I thought it might be that, but no. Might try those other options to see if I get the same result and narrow the issue down. Great video as usual, Mike.

why does noise reduction always makes my audio sound like I'm in a big empty room or alienates audio when other effects are added? I've tried doing noise reduction first before anything else, tried it after and I even tried DeNoise instead but that one sounds like there's a shower running in the background. Maybe noise reduction doesn't work well with -33 db raw audio or you just can't reduce noise without damaging voice file. It's strange because in audacity it's so easy to reduce noise. You capture noise before and after effects and it's perfect
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 11 месяцев назад
Noise reduction can be tricky, especially when dealing with lower dB levels. The 'big empty room' or 'alien' sound often occurs when the settings are too aggressive. Try and get a balance if you can.
@VerticDesigns
@VerticDesigns 11 месяцев назад
@@MikeRussell just watched your adobe audition tutorial which was very helpful :) but it got me thinking. Is it better to record at low levels around -33 to not pick up as much background noise or record between -18 to -12 then remove noise?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 11 месяцев назад
I'd go at higher volume otherwise you risk increasing the noise floor by recording at low volumes so an extra issue introduced.

Thanks for the wonderful videos Mike! When reducing noise using the noise capture method, why aren't you going to 100% noise reduction? Is the 80% threshold the maximum amount to reduce noise? I just go to 100% noise reduction. The only caveat is that I really need a long capture of the noise print, otherwise the vocals sound phased.
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 2 года назад
Any noise reduction has a negative impact on the audio quality so the least you can use the better. Always best to solve noise before you hit record.
@Safeway_Sage
@Safeway_Sage 2 года назад
@@MikeRussell Good point. Yes, the noise we deal with is (thankfully!) pretty consistent. It is the hum of the air conditioner units on the roof of the building that permeates the recording area. So, I take a nice long sample before recording and use that. I will try using 80% (or less) to see if it helps. Thanks!

Hello, awesome video as always! and I have a question. Do you record your audio raw with no pre applied filters like in obs (compressor, noise gate etc.) then edit the raw audio file or do you use these filters and edit the audio? I've recently got the Shure SM7B and I'm not sure what's the best way for clearest audio

Unless you need to be live I would always recommend recording raw audio and processing it in post production

@@MikeRussell Thank you so much :) I had a feeling it might be better that way, less chance or background noise being amplified and picked up haha

Great! How do you do this with multiple tracks at the same time?

To remove background noise from multiple tracks simultaneously in Adobe Audition simply select all the tracks you want to apply the noise reduction effect to and apply the effect using the Multitrack.

Hi Mike, i know u are the best one in audition, so i would ask you if i make audio typing words in azure for example and them put ir in audition, could i change this audio in order to leave it with intonations that simulate real speech emotions. If yes, how can i make this? thanks in advance

Between noise reduction effect and dynamics effect, which one is the most effective in removing background noise?
@MikeRussell

Both do different tasks so there is no correct answer for every situation here.

Love your videos. I'm applying speech volume leveler to tracks where the speaker's voice gets really quite at the end of sentences. The leveler is great but it's also spiking his breath making his breathing sounds really loud. I've tried capturing a noise print and doing a reduction but the audio just sounds awful. Is there a right way to do this?

Thank you for your support! Try using the Dynamics Processing effect in Adobe Audition to gently reduce the breath sounds without affecting the overall quality of the audio track. Hope this helps!
