@@caldwell1981ac No need to drain, just make sure the torque converter doesn't slip off its shaft. Thanks for watching

Very interesting to see the gearbox out like that! Are you going to service the gearbox? I have another question for you, I hear people say if you don't change the gearbox oil soon enough then you must just leave it, let's say the F10 has 200000km and it still has the original gearbox oil, is it better or worse to replace it?

Hi buddy, I had to weld a few stands and the adjustable height trolley so I can get the transmission safely as I was working on my own. It worked out very well and was safe which is most important thing. Yes, I did service the gearbox and have recorded excellent footage on the full process including using ISTA+ to observe transmission oil temperature and pour the oil at the correct temperature. I did the service at the very end after I rebuilt the engine. You need to refill the automatic transmission with the engine running so can't do it properly with it disconnected. There are a lot of myths when it comes to changing oil in ZF/BMW automatic transmissions. These transmissions have stickers on them saying lifetime oil which is total nonsense. This transmission felt so much better and smoother after the service. It had never been serviced in almost 170 000 miles (270 000k km). One of the main reasons I changed the oil was as the transmission sump gasket was leaking through every single bolt. You could also see the massive difference in the oil colour and when you see the video here on the channel you will be shocked the amount of metal shavings were captured by the magnets. Glad to see you here on the channel every time buddy, your support means a lot.

@@TheKeenMechanicWow, such an informative reply, thank you so much for the information! I'm really interested to see the future video's of the repairs! Very interesting gearbox info, thank you I will definitely keep this in mind, life time is such nonsense, same with the differential oil, these must definitely be changed at some point! As always it's a pleasure to watch you video's and I will stay tuned for all the rest😁👍

Seems that I might have to do this job on my F30. I have a few video's on my channel of some weird chirping/squealing sounds from the gearbox. Also a knocking sound, I think it could be flexplate damage. They noises seem to occur only once the car warmes up and become louder the warmer it is. Hopefully I will be able to sort it out soon.

@@mrmusic1880 I watched the videos and it sounds like something is grinding possibly in the bell housing. If your 335i is a manual it could be your flywheel. I remember you mentioned that your car is high mileage car. If your flywheel is a dual mass flywheel then it may be damaged. There are springs inside it and sometimes if a spring breaks it can grind into the bell housing. I don't believe it is the flex disc to be honest. There is no doubt you will have to drop the gearbox. There are oil leaks so use the opportunity to change sump gasket and sort out other leaks. I would advise you to take the engine out too

There's a slight knocking/rumbling sound coming form the bellhousing. Want to check if the torque converter bolts are loose, do I need to remove the starter motor? Is it possible to do it through the inspection holes?

How many support elements do you need for gearbox? I’m trying to remove N47 engine and leave gearbox in the car. I don’t have a lift. Is it possible to put one support to bell housing and bolt the OEM gearbox back to rear after remove?
@TheKeenMechanic
@TheKeenMechanic Месяц назад
@@mattitolonen6280 The bolts that hold the engine to gearbox go through the bell housing and bolt into the engine. You will need to lower the gearbox in order to access the top bolts. I have no idea how you will manage to remove the engine and keep the box in place. Consider removing both

Avoid if you can but everyone does it. As long as it is gentle and not too much and only do it for adjustments🤝🏻
