in this video I show you the one thing about the Bmw Diesel engines that people say are impossible and are unable to complete this service without causing major damage to the head and the glow plugs itself in this video I show you how to remove the glow plugs on the bmw 535D with ease which many are not aware of there is method to this process and as always you must have patience with this job and treat the job with a lot of respect as this can cost you alot of money if you don't have the tools and this goes wrong as many people are already aware

Dudeee, you get rly lucky there! Broke 2 of mine whit same tips, and now im waiting drilling/puller set from uk. If you guys dont wanna go drilling do something more than this. First of all, run your engine hot as you can before tryig to get them off. Even if needed you can start that diesel beast whitout intake on. You can also use heatgun if needed, second tip is get an torque wrench! Set it up max 40nm and yank it whit that like in video. if it dosend move, whit that, you have to be smart, not strong. Plugs what dosend came off whit 40nm, put some engine oil/wd bath on those plugs, put intake back and let it soak 5-7 days, by driving the car and let heatcycles do the job for you. Otherwise, your have to drill them off like i do.

Such a great video, thanks so much for sharing the wisdom. I attempted doing my 160k mile E91 330d glow plugs but was convinced they were seized and would break so gave up. Had another go after watching this video and got all 6 out with no drama at all. Ended up using WD40 (Specialist Penetrant) and applied it 3-4 times over two days prior to removal. Even then they still felt like they were going nowhere, but after about 10 minutes (per plug) of applying tightening/loosening force (10-15nm) without any movement at all, i'd suddenly feel just a tiny bit of movement. Applied a bit more penetrant and worked backed and forward untill out 🙏🙌 Undoubtedly a bit OTT on the caution levels and took nearly nearly 30 mins per plug, but I was freekin terrified of the prospect of having to remove a snaped plug from the head 🤣 Glad I did it as all plugs were totally dead. Scanner showed fault with all 6 plugs so suspected the control module was at fault. Changed that too just to be safe.

I need to do mine and this has given me a bit of courage lol.120k F10 530d over here. Ista is giving me fault codes for the module and one glow plug. Making sure the engine is at normal operating temperature makes it much easier and BMW recommend this prior to spraying penetrating fluid.

Excellent. All I would add is: I run a tiny amount of penetrating fluid in, preferably overnight prior to attacking any potentially seized thread. WD40 is better than nothing, but the best penetrating fluid can be made by making up a 50/50 mix of Acetone and Automatic Transmission Fluid. Make you own at home, you don't need much to make a lifetime's supply. A dropper bottle is the best way of applying it so it doesn't get sprayed everywhere and making a mess. As I said, use it on any thread, and be patient, leave for a good few hours if you can. If this doesn't work, heating the joint is the next best thing, but you don't want to be doing this in your engine compartment lol.

Great video!! ✌️ I did it (with my mechanic) on my '02 E39 525D Touring with 265.000Km, they were all 6 dead (all Beru, I don't know for how long they were in, I have bought the car in August 2021), 5 pulled out without issues and one literally "disassembled" itself 😅, but we pulled out super-easily with an extractor. And while I was there I removed the stupid swirl flaps (I took a 530D "swirl-less" intake manifold from the junkyard), one was stuck and loose from one side and it was ready to grenade my M57D25, luckily the EGR-PCV nastiness kept it glued in place. Ciao from Italy! 🇮🇹

On another note, can any type of vacuum pipe be used when changing them out or is there a specific type? Could you please try to make a video on doing a diesel purge or injector cleaning procedure on the post e39 models where the fuel filter is no longer in the engine bay? Thanks again for the info and the effort you put into these videos.

Yes mate I have it all planned on what I intend to do and I advise leaving them soaked for about a hour like I did and before you turn them spray again you do not have to heat up the car as others say that is all bullshit wd40 when cold or hot and just leave it to soak in and then spray again and done and mate the only vacuum pipe you can use is 3m in diameter mate but I would get 5m length of vacuum pipe that will be more then enough to do the whole car

I checked inside and 1 glow plug had really much corrosion around it. Visually the other looked fine. I have changed spark plugs in my life, but these videos scare me of changing the glow plug.. Especially with corrosion being not most likely inside, but also a small coin size around it on the block. Maybe I should just have it taking to a mechanic to do just the 1.. they are used CONSTANTLY to help the DPF REGEN so I would change them again and did you change glow plug controller at same time otherwise they wont even work
