Using a needle nose and a torx screwdriver was a waste of time and money for me. I finally needed a crescent wrench and a torx torque wrench to remove the struts off of the old seat
thanks for the video, is it normal there is a bit of play between the plastic housing of the bolts and the metal on the chair or are they supposed to lock in rock solid? mine does have a little play which makes the seat moving a tiny bit, depending on my sitting position.
Thanks, as this was a big help, but you should spend a little more time on getting the chair to align with the bolts since it is much more difficult than you show on your video. Also, the bolt moves around at an angle at times and prevents an easy screw. The last step was very frustrating until I was able to get the bolt started properly, and I could see that if done incorrectly, I could ruin the chair.
The method of slow steady pushing on the the first screws removed here is a good way to get the nut inside the seat pan to come right out with the screw - BAD IDEA... Instead, put a pipe on the allen wrench if you need to, or hit the allen wrench quickly with a hammer (the point is to move it super quickly so that the screw comes loose from the nut, not the nut loose from the seat). Speaking from experience - I did it like this video and screwed up my seat pan. Please revise the video.

@@BrentLabasan I'm just saying it has to be done QUICKLY. A person I spoke with who refurbs these chairs every day told me this, said you have to do it fast to try to break the screw loose from the nut, that moving slow will end up with the nut coming loose from the chair itself.... When I say put a pipe around it, I mean putting a pipe around the end of the Allen wrench (or "hex key" they're sometimes called) so that you have something longer than an Allen wrench, more leverage.
@@positivewalt4602 not sure what city you're in but if it's a big one, get on craigslist and find someone who repairs these (not some authorized dealer who won't tell you anything but a random person who will be honest with you about what does and doesn't work and will admit the design errors of these chairs). Call them and ask. But I doubt super glue is going to hold much weight or tension if you try to screw or unscrew it. If the place the pan connects to the chair cradle thing is all in good shape, if you're not super heavy, if the cradle doesn't bend outward when you sit in it, just screw the screw AND nut back into the pan and it should just hold in place because the cradle is too narrow to let the seat pan pop out of it. Hard to explain without showing you what I mean.
@@busyboxst7 I'm 20 lbs heavier than when I got the chair back in 2000. Yes, the design is so strange on this chair when I pop everything back in place everything looks good and it worked for 3 weeks. I'm too heavy now and the seat "tacos" and the screw and nut pop back out every time now. Thanks for the info I'm in the SFBay Area so hopefully I can find a repair person. I'm not giving up on up on this comfortable chair!✊

Is there a reason to not simply unscrew the old, ripped mesh seat insert from the current seat frame, as well as the mesh insert from the replacement seat, and then screw the new one into the old seat frame? That seems as if it would be a much simpler and straight forward solution. 12 screws, and done.
Turns out that yes, one could simply replace just the meshed seat frame, but while doing so I came upon another issue. Under the mesh on the front of the seat there is a glued on foam pad. Missing and forgotten on my decrepit, old Aeron, and brand spanking new on the new seat. It cannot easily be removed from the new seat to the old, since it is glued in place, so I will be putting the mesh back in place and going through the regular replacement process. Damn.
@@critifur That's correct - also oftentimes the entire seat assembly is broken or cracked and needs to be replaced. Also it can be difficult to replace just the mesh, as sometimes the new mesh is very tight and tough to re-install. Having the entire seat off makes that process much easier as well.
ensure you use the correct tool to loosen the screw. Some of these chairs are super old and the nylon nut was put on too tight from the factory. Cut that screw if you have to, that's an easy replacement.🤞
