Please pass along to Audi Lynnwood Service Department! Took mine in and was sent away because the service guy said there was no key tool to remove! I watched this video, came home & did it myself! They were the Audi factory racks and the key tool was exactly where you said it was in this video!
Yeah that's a great idea! Unfortunately that tool gets placed in a myriad locations. It could be in the tool bag, it could be in the extra storage bin below the rear trunk cover, or it could even be in the glove box. This is because the special tool comes attached to the racks which get installed during pre-delivery inspection. Then the tool gets placed wherever by the technician or salesperson.
Thank you you saved me so much time. I actually need to put them on so maybe next time show where they should be placed and how to remove. Thanks again.
That tool apparently has been changed in the last few years. The original tool did not have the heavy black tubing, and it did not have the white alignment arrows. The original (older) tool was something you'd expect to find on a Yugo. And, it was not stowed in the jack area, it was randomly thrown in the glove box or rear side compartment.
Hi There thanks for sharing the details. I have a 2018 Q5, and checked the tool bad as shown but unfortunately this T wrench is not there. Not sure if Audi Canada supplies or not, but would like to buy one. Any part number available?
I am in the same situation. Bought the car used 3 years ago and did not come with the tool. The local dealer says there's no way to buy it. Can this be true?
I just bought a 2019 sq5 with the roof rail racks on. Unfortunately, one of the clamps is missing. Is there any way I could order this part? And if so, what would be the part number?
@@andreasweezey8368 I was just going to say :) yeah keep loosening the bolts and give it a little jiggle and it should free up. Glad the video got you most of the way!
Hello Sir ! Thanks for your video. The T tool is getting really loose with years of using it. I cannot remove the roof rack now. The screw doesn’t turn anymore using the T tool. So now they are stuck on my Q5 !! Do have any idea how can I remove them ? The gas price is getting super high now and I can’t leave them on the car if There is no more need
Did you strip out the roof rack or tool? Sounds like too much pressure was applied when tightening the bolts and now it is stripped. But great news the racks will not impact your fuel economy in a significant way. Make sure your tire pressures are correct, too!
@@SeanWinkler yes too much pressure. I think that the bolt is striped now. I can not turn it anymore using the tool but I still can turn 2 bolts over 4.
Hey that's a great question. You're not driving a Hybrid, are you? I don't recall exactly what he tray is called but if it exists you might be able to find it here: parts.audiusa.com/
What might be the issue when I am trying to reinstall the roof rack and I can’t seem to get one side of the roof rack’s 2 bolts into the 2 holes on the roof holder to be sure the two bolts are secured into those holes when tightened ? Thank you.
Hey Daniel great question. Try giving the bolt some positive pressure with the wrench while you gently move the rack left and right until you feel the bolts "lock" into place. Then secure from there. Also confirm the bar is facing the right direction - there are usually alignment arrows to confirm correct positioning. Hope this helps!
+Mr.Westport exactly, its killing me i have a 2016 q5 and i can find installation for every other audi but mines, and the one i find to be someone close as this one. It still was lousy, he was not informative enough..
