Hi do you have a suggestion on removal of what I believe is sealant adhesion. I lifted the bottom track off, and the white sealant almost looks baked on? 🤔🤔I tried the caulking tool, a razor, even put some goo gone on it to set for awhile, it's not moving and I don't know how to get it to come up ???
Oh no! I'm sorry you are having these issues. I'm not sure exactly how to remove that kind of adhesive. But I might try a small test area with a heat gun or blow dryer to loosen the adhesive. A little bit of heat at a time and then immediately try to use the scraper carefully. I'm not sure if this will damage anything though. Just an idea.
@@brandi-janaicarter3862 You can use goo-gone on the little stuff left behind, but make sure to clean the area well and wipe with rubbing alcohol before applying new caulk.
You’ve saved the DAY you wonderful person! Our new home has THE skinniest tub and we have to stand sideways to wash ourselves 😮 That door is coming off ASAP thanks to your video🙂
Omg I HATE my shower doors ! We have a bubble gum pink bathtub with gold rimmed shower doors and the WORST wallpaper. Our house is 86 years old ! THANK YOU for sharing ur video ! So I can show my other half how STUPID SIMPLE it is to remove the damn doors already ! 😒 we have a 2 month old and I am going to refinish the tub with a non slip white. We also have his Mom here who's turning 92 ! So it has to be safe and easy to get in and out
I'm glad our video inspired you! Still one of the best cheap and easy home improvement decisions we've made! Good luck! And I hope your whole family enjoys the new vibe of no more gold shower doors. 😀
Of course! I'm glad our video was helpful. It took less than a day to complete everything. A few hours. But we couldn't use the shower until the next morning so the patching and caulk could dry.
The bottom screw was actually a toggle bolt. It has a wing shaped, spring loaded nut that folds up while inserting through a hole. Once it’s in the hole the wings expand back out to keep it from pulling back through the hole. You have to keep a little pressure against the wing shaped nut to keep it from spinning. Good job!
We bought an older place also who’s previous owners Mickey-moused most of all the home “improvements”. Thank goodness I’m handy and my brother is too! Going to do this soon
So frustrating when you realize things aren't done well. But we are always happy after each project...even if it's a mess along the way. Lol. We still love our shower doors being gone!
I do NOT understand why these stupid doors are so popular. I mean if it's a stylistic choice, to each their own and I'm glad it can make some people happy. But as far as I can tell it has zero practicality to it, and it makes me angry lol. I'm so glad that removing them is way easier than I thought and I'll be doing this next weekend because after seven years of this I'm f***ing fed up. Thank you!!!!!
I always assumed it was to keep the water from going all over the floor. This is the second house I've had with these annoying doors. But a shower curtain works just as well! Lol. I say, take those obnoxious doors down and enjoy!! 😀
Hard same! I just moved into an apartment with these disgusting shower doors and it has this nasty brown gunk around the bottom and I have wiped it over and over and it keeps flaking off. It’s like the previous renters’ dead skin cells mixed with dirt mixed with mildew mixed with mold and I am just beside myself. I hate shower doors!!!!!
I can't remember exactly how many hours but it wasn't a terribly long process. Maybe 3 or 4...not including dry time for the filler product. It would have been faster if it wasn't for the random long screw that wouldn't come out. Lol.
Wonderful video! And the outcome is awesome! I have to remove mine... I'm a tall lady and I don't want to be hitting my head on the top rail all of the time. Also, it really makes the bathroom feel small and cramped having the doors. Gotta go!!
The other ones I wanted to try were a little out of my price range (can't remember exact brands sadly). I actually need to do some touchups and will be trying a different one. I'll be sharing that process in the next month hopefully. 😀
It's so hard to make changes when you rent. 😔 Adding a shower curtain to hide the ugly sliding doors really helps the bathroom look nicer. It won't fix the awkwardness of showering with the doors in the way sadly. But might make the room feel more inviting. 😀
@@LandDHome I appreciate that. I'm gonna try to deep clean it and maybe change the glass silicone sealant cause it's moldy to make look hygienic at least, hope in the future have a home of my own 🙌😅
@@TropicalRedFlower im literally having that same problem. I rent too. The apartment is pretty old and they didn’t replace the sealant or the rubber trim. It looks gross no matter how much i clean it.
@@sherrios5964 Hi! I'm soon going to take the glass out of the frame, it has screws, that way I can throw the glass trim into a bucket of bleach and kill the mold, let's pray it's not hard to do🤞😅
omg tyy so much ima try and do this cs its so disgusting cs i cant clean it but i have a question was there like rust and bad stains after u took everything off and how did u clean everything because for me the doors are still there but i can see rust and mold underneath can u help me please?
The rust and stains weren't too bad underneath. A little cleaner and elbow grease worked for me. Maybe try some powdered Comet or something similar and a scrubber.
okay thank youuu also when taking the doors down was it hard like the side ones because im scared like something will go wrong and then i wont be able to go back
It was a little tricky, yes. Mostly taking down the metal that was holding the doors in place on the sides. That was the hardest part overall. Luckily, I didn't have any major issues and we love it! ❤️ But I can never make promises as everyone's project is different.
We're glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! We have a few free bulk trash pick-ups each year. We stored it in the garage for a few weeks until the free pick-up date arrived.
I know you posted this a year ago, but thank goodness you shared it! I also hate hate hate my glass shower doors and want to remove them. Been wanting to for the last 3 years since I bought my house. This video gave me the motivation I need to just get it done once and for all. Thanks again for sharing your experience with this project!
My daughter wants me to remove her door in her condo and this was a good video. Didn’t look too hard, something I can do within a couple of hours so I will give it a try, thanks for the video and good job doing it yourself✊🏽👊🏽🔥
