Logitech's G413 keyboard comes with a catch... It's proprietary switch that breaks inside the switch itself! The ROMER-G and its variants suffer from this nasty surprise. Fortunately it's possible to fix them by using a needle and a lighter. Is it worth it to fix this keyboard? Let's find out!

I just got a G413 about 3 weeks ago and the pins on my Ctrl button broke inside the switch, you are a life saver man. It looks like almost everyone is having problems with the left Ctrl key cap. These keycaps are disappointingly flimsy and fragile. Wish I'd bought a Cougar Keyboard instead.

Same here, this video was a life saver. And yes, the key was LCtrl 🫠 I just switched it with RCtrl that’s still intact, luckily.

Thanks for this video - I ordered CTRL key replacement key caps and then realized I had broken plastic studs inside the romer-G switch - I had no idea how to remove them until I came across your video.

at worst, you can buy a single new switch, but you need to open keyboard, unweld the stucked switch and weld the new one. it is easy but you need the equipment and a bit of experience i broke my shift cap, because this keyboard also has a terrible switch, and it stops working properly. i could solve it cleaning with isopropilic when failure occur. but i broke the cap last time (using only fingers my bad). i also have a big problem, im spanish and cap sellers only sell USA layout, so i think i will end up buying ALT cap that has the same size, it will have the wrong label but will work also noticed when cleaning control switch with isopropilic that it has broken one of the studs. terrible design. thanks this guy i will try to extract the studs without switch replacement. i cleaned all keyboard so extracted all caps, maybe there are more broken, and i will have to buy a whole new set

Just a quick question, does romer g keycaps always break even though you have a keycap puller? Just preparing myself for my g613 in the future.
@leparklez
@leparklez 2 года назад
I broke my left ctrl by using normally - then I broke like 3? by pulling them all off. I’d say it’s not impossible to do it clean if you’re fast and angle it right. I don’t think I’d be so lucky to do this next time without breaking one or two, each pin gets quite stuck in there and pulling can easily break them unfortunately. good luck!

@@leparklez just by using it? wtf. i broke left shift because common switch failure to wash with isopropilic. also noticed i have broken one of the 2 control studs. i did a full keyboard cleaning so maybe i broke a couple more. probably will buy a full set of caps i have extra problem, my keyboard is spanish layout, and i can only buy USA layout. will need to use for example ALT cap on my shift because they are same size

Bought the same keyboard a while ago.. I'm not the most avid gamer out there, but so far at least 15 keys have all 4 pins broken. The left CTRL broke within the first couple of days, made it unusable for gaming. Unacceptable quality. Edit: We have no Logitech support in this part of Europe, the store refused to replace it after the control key broke.

My left ctrl broke first too and I’m not an aggressive typer... it’s a real shame from logitech unfortunately. Don’t loose your hopes, try getting replacements from ali express!

I have a G512. And that's not really a big issue for me, they stay in even with some broken stems. My left alt has some of its coating grinded by use that the led light breaks through the bottom key cap margin. The metal plate under space is also of a different color because of use, probably from my thumb sliding off space on to it repeatedly over a long period of time. But this is nothing, the biggest issue i have is with the switches themselves because some of the keys are at times double clicking or not registering presses. And from what i read about it's because the romer-g design is not that good to begin with and their overall quality sucks. And what's worse that these supposedly premium keyboards from logitech don't have hot swappable switches. Like it's a feature you find in way cheaper keyboards but logitech is stingy on this.

hi man, same problem on my g413. after some research i concluded that the romer switch is faulty by design (even tho i noticed that most issues were born after removing key caps so maybe we damaged the key mechanism under), made to last up to 5 months usually. In my case it lasted 4 years and now lots of buttons double click(when they work). There are some solutions online, look on yt like the one wit toothpick
@somnorila9913
@somnorila9913 11 месяцев назад
@@simoschv In general my issues are mended, it's a lot better now. I could had been more thorough but didn't want to sink too much time with it. So i changed a few switches around, like took from the scroll lock, pause, print screen and whatnot, buttons i use very rare and replaced them with buttons that made most issues from what i remembered. And for others i just clean them. Is quite easy to disassemble the switch and cleaned the contact between the metal parts. Some i rubbed with some paper and alcohol and some i went with some fine sandpaper or nail file. Seems that all approaches had similar effects so doesn't really matter. The result is ok but also kind of not so easy to determine. All in all i get way less issues. I noticed and took note a few other keys that have issues but are way less and the issues not that often. Just one from the ones i cleaned seems to repeat. So maybe some other time when i'll feel like i'll desolder all the ones i still have on the list to reclean. It's doable and not too complicated, just annoying to do.

How to clean with 99,8% alcohol the roamers G?
@MisterLoLesp
@MisterLoLesp 8 месяцев назад
i just throw isopropilic over the switch, and then pressing a lot of times. it works. it is not permanent solution but improves a lot the malfunctions also isopropilic doesnt conduct electricity so you can do with the keyboard conected, dont worry (if you leave the bottle open, maybe alcohol catch humidity and has a little % of water)

Yes those keycaps are a big fail in design and a big L to logitech for not letting you get keycaps to buy outside of warranty request. i got mine from logitech only because i had warranty still. The Switches are nice because they are not miles high like the cherry switches.
