Screen can be detached inserting a paper clip in some specific holes of the tablet. The holes of interest are on both sides. Counting from the hinges are holes number 6. The paper clip goes in easily, but it goes in at an angle. Don't try to insert straight. Using your cellphone light to illuminate and closely look at it will give you an idea on how to angle the paper clip. Sh, and use the large type of paper clips.

A latex hot water bag can do the trick. Heat up the water to desired temperature in a pan. Use thermometer to monitor until desired temperature. Pour into bag. Bags can be purchased at pharmacy. Once applied, keep temperature elevated by using a common hair dryer. Use two water bags to warm up the whole screen simultaneously. This procedure prevents hot spots that could damage the screen during the procedure. iFixit sells also bags that can be heated up in the microwave, but difficult to time for desired temperature.

@ErikHendershot
@ErikHendershot 2 года назад
@@rohan5241 Yes. You have to insert it at a upward diagonal angle (towards the top center of the screen). You will need to do it on both sides and the magnet that wants to keep it seated is somewhat strong, so I have done it where I pop one side out and then insert a business card or something similar in between to keep that side from relatching when I do the other side. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Thank you so much for mentioning! My battery in the tablet wouldn't charge and official instructions about a battery not charging say to clean the pins between the base and the tablet. Pretty ironic, considering that the tablet can only be removed above 10% battery level. They did not mention at all, that the tablet can be removed manually. You saved me from a very expensive repair. For those of you who need a visual representation of the process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--a8xaZ2RBfg.html

It's because the screen is the tablet part of the device, you can detach it from the base and work independently, that's why the screen has the CPU, the SSD, the RAM and other parts for making it work. The base has the NVIDIA GPU.

If the rest of the trackpad work fine and you can move the cursor in those corners, then it is most likely a bad trackpad. It may be jammed in. You should be able to soft left click on the trackpad without the click feedback.

When I press the power button and hold down the volume up button, after a dozen or so seconds, the red light from the Surface tablet's disconnect button lights up once. You can manually detach the top. On the bottoms left side of the screen you have to go 6 holes up. Get a paper clip and straighten it out. Stick in the 6th hole and and you should feel a spring in there. Push until detachment.

While watching I kept thinking there has to be a better way to heat the glue without damaging the screen. I pictured a large chunk of metal laid on top edges of glass maybe using something like thermal paste to help transfer heat quicker so it doesnt spread out as much by heating for long periods of time at slower rate. Looked online for soldering iron tips and there is one called a "T tip" that looks interesting. If i had to do this a lot that would be my goto route trying to heat small sections and wedge some thin metal between the parts I have already split leaving the thin metal behind as I go ensuring i dont rebond it when heating the next section. could also try to use thermal double sided tape on area of screen just below where you are working to mount a heatsink in an attempt to ensure a sharp thermal transition zone from glued edge to LCD.

Super simple with the iFixit iOpener. Just did this a few weeks ago. It's a simple pad you heat in the microwave and place on the sides. It keeps things at a safe temperature and makes the risk of damaging the screen next to zero. You just need to reheat it a few times as you work carefully through all the corners.
