This is one of the most amazing things I have seen in my life. We have a expensive berber area rug at our front entrance. Two weeks ago I ordered a curry takeout and when it was delivered, the bottom of the paper bag was wet, it came apart when I picked it up and one of the curry dish containers fell landed on the area rug, flipped over and I had this curry dish all over a large area of the carpet. I spent a half hour using our spot carpet cleaner getting it all up and I was so pleased that after the clean up there wasn't even a hint of residual curry odor. The next when I opened the front door I was so disappointed to see that when the sunshine hit the front of the rug, there was a distinct yellow curry stain left behind. After research on curry stain removal. I figured my only option was to live with the stain or replace this expensive rug. Then I came across your video. I purchased the 6% peroxide and the UV light from Amazon for about 35 dollars in total which was a fraction of what it would cost to replace this rug. I have to work one area of the carpet at a time. The stain was too big to get it all in one treatment but as I am typing this, I am using this method and so far the stains are about 80% gone. I am gobsmacked at the genius of this and I cannot thank you enough.

@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 2 года назад
I would try using hydrogen peroxide without UV light as a first step. Hydrogen peroxide and UV light creates a stronger oxidation reaction, but this method is not always necessary to remove stains. In this case it is not guaranteed that the stain is caused by turmeric, so that is why I would start with hydrogen peroxide. Please check out this video for details on using hydrogen peroxide without UV Light: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d1Toi44x7pY.html If hydrogen peroxide doesn't work, you can try adding UV light as shown in this video.

@TheStainGuide

This method will remove turmeric stains from wool carpet, however, it is possible that it could damage the wool fibers so I do not recommend it. I have also never used this method to remove a turmeric stain from a wool carpet or carpet made from natural fiber so I cannot say whether it would cause damage if only used for a short duration. There was a person who left a comment on one of my videos saying that he removed a turmeric stain from his white wool carpet without any issues using this method.

Can we use hydrogen peroxide and ammonia solution as you suggested for coffee stain
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
Unfortunately, hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone will not break down curcumin (yellow pigments in turmeric). hydrogen peroxide and UV light is required for turmeric stains. These reactions are from a branch of chemistry called electrochemistry, meaning that they are dealing with electrical current and voltage. The voltage of the reaction with hydrogen peroxide and ammonia is lower than the voltage of the hydroxyl radicals that are produced from hydrogen peroxide and UV light. This higher voltage reaction is what is needed to break down turmeric stains. Good luck and great question!

I think I got the carpet too wet and also the carpet has got worn from my scrubbing :( i then tried using Vanish carpet cleaner , a few times, but there is stil a stain. Is it safe to now use this method and will it work to get the remaining colour from my carpet?

@@TheStainGuide thanks so much! I'm just wondering whether there might be residue left from the other cleaning products, could the chemicals react with the hydrogen peroxide and cause a problem? Or it's ok?
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
I would say it is unlikely that residue from the products you have used will create an adverse effect. Some of the cleaning agents that you have used possibly have a high pH. The high Ph residue could speed up the reaction. This means that you can check the progress more frequently. I think in the video, I checked and moved the light every 15 minutes. Maybe check the progress every 5 minutes or less.
@madcow809
@madcow809 Год назад
Would this UV light make a difference when applied in addition to your coffee video?
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
The short answer is: I would stick to using hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone for coffee stains. There is a case where I would add UV light. Let me explain below: Coffee stains are caused by two molecules that get stuck to the carpet fibers. The main molecules is called a melanoidin pigment, the other molecule is called a tannin pigment. Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone will break down the melanoidin pigments. If you have repeated the hydrogen peroxide and ammonia method 3 to 4 times, and are still left with a faint brown stain, it is probably caused by tannin pigments from the coffee. Tannin pigments are not easily broken down by hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alone. It is rare that these tannin pigments cause a problem from coffee stains. Typically the tannin pigment concentration from coffee is so low that it doesn't result in any staining of the carpet. But if you do have a faint brown stain after using the hydrogen peroxide/ammonia method 3 to 4 times, you can try using hydrogen peroxide and UV light afterwards to try and break down the remaining stain caused by tannin pigments. Don't use hydrogen peroxide and UV light on your carpet for an extended period of time though. Approximately 1 hour or less is enough to remove the remaining stain.

This method should work on vinyl flooring as well. I have used this method to remove turmeric stains from wooden counters and it worked well. Just mist 6% hydrogen peroxide over the stained area, then shine the UV light on it. I'd suggest testing the method in an inconspicuous area to ensure that it doesn't cause damage to the vinyl. Since vinyl is a synthetic material, and dyed with synthetic dyes, it is highly unlikely that it will result in any damage. Good luck!

Do you need to keep spraying more hydrogen peroxide in between the 20 minute black light intervals. And how many times should it take before the stain is gone.
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
Most of the time one hydrogen peroxide application is more than enough. the total time needed under the UV light depends on how bad the stain is. If the stain is light in color it may only take 5-10 minutes under the UV light for the stain to fully come out. If the stain is dark, like the one I removed in the video, then it will take more time under the UV light.

Thank you for your response. This technique has really helped. I have gotten most of the color of the turmeric out. I have continued to spray more hydrogen peroxide because it seems dried up after the black light sits on it for 20 minutes. There are still a few droplet type spots (this happened from my dog chewing on turmeric capsules and then vomiting it up on my carpet). So, should I just keep exposing to the UV light until it all disappears and not spray anymore hydrogen peroxide.

@@TheStainGuide thank you for your response. There’s a common piece of advice to treat stains with hydrogen peroxide and lay out in direct sunlight. I did that for spots on a white tshirt but they turned yellow. Is there any way to undo the oxidation? I understand this is a carpent cleaning not a laundry channel. I hope you don’t mind me asking
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
@@aliensuperstar1233 no problem, I'm happy to answer your question. Say your shirt is made out of cotton, what you are seeing is the original color of a cotton plant on the new spots on your shirt, which is not perfectly white but has a hint of yellow/brown. When textile industries make white fabric for clothing, they start with cotton that is a yellow/brown color and then they bleach it with a reducing agent and add whitening agents to make it perfectly white. Unfortunately, what has happened to your shirt is you have undone the bleaching that was done with a reducing agent by using a strong oxidizing agent (hydroxyl radicals). Additionally the whitening agents have probably been broken down by the hydroxyl radicals. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix your shirt, or at least no easy way that I am aware of. Sorry I can't help you fix it ☹️. Also this happens to fabrics other than cotton, like synthetic fibers too.

Putting this method to work on my kids new minecraft tnt block area rug, he accidentally knocked over and dumped half the turmeric spice bottle I had sitting on our bathroom counter to make my tooth paste mixture,crazy it White's teeth,yet totally stains dyes fabrics,lol. I thought instantly it was a lost cause knowing turmeric is used for dyeing fabrics and has for centuries...but I looked it up, and hope this works

Did it work?

@@emilysmith1000 I didn't have a UV light, so I went with my same old concoction, dawn dish soap,baking soda and white vinegar, scrubbed soaked scrubbed soaked, for about a week alternating and yeah, that worked, there's never acually been any stain that that method doesn't work,in my 25yrs of doing laundry and stains, its always worked,it's a matter of putting that much time and effort into it.. and well,sometimes,depending on where the stain is, it's just not worth that much time and effort. But this, was my kids rug sort of a special thing we had gotten himvfor his bathroom,and it wasn't his fault, i didnt put lid back on my turmeric, he didnt even know what it was. The white rug was like 40$ on amazon, so ya, to us, it was worth the time and effort to get stain out.

@@neciasilver5357 thanks so much for your reply! I tried this method too, but I may have done it wrong as I only had apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar... The stain spread out but is pale yellow/beige... And from scrubbing, the carpet has got quite worn, so I think the fibres may be too soft to keep scrubbing... I ordered the UV light so i will try this way... 🤞🤞🙏 (And now i know in future not to panic and start trying to clean a stain without research!!)

@@emilysmith1000 apple cider vinegar won't really change anything in the chemical compound that is our focus on removing a stain. Your stain, it is just turmeric right? Or was it mixed with other foods?

@@neciasilver5357 ah ok. Thanks for the info! Yes, it was just dry turmeric powder.

UV light? I need to use a UV light?

Hi, just managed to stain my carpet with an indian dish which has turmeric in it. the stain is about 5cm wide so would a 30w UV light be too much?
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
A 30W UV light will work, but make sure you check the progress frequently as this is a stronger light and can more easily remove color from the carpet if left for a longer period of time.

Does this works if I don’t get the UV light thingy? Can I just put the hydrogen Peroxide and leave it under the sun?
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 4 месяца назад
Technically yes, that will absolutely remove the stain because the sun produces ultraviolet radiation. I don’t have much experience with doing it that way so I’m not sure if the intensity will damage the carpet.

can i try this on Tupperware?
@TheStainGuide

I’ve never tried it so I’m not sure. I might try soaking the stained Tupperware in an oxygenated bleach (like Oxiclean) first.

This works great. Actually you won’t need hydrogen peroxide and I used pencils instead of chopstick

We don’t have uv light at home
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide Год назад
Fair point. Most people don't have one. If you are able to take the carpet into direct sunlight, the sunlight would work as a UV light. Unfortunately, turmeric stains cannot be removed without UV light because the UV light is what splits the hydrogen peroxide molecules into hydroxyl radicals. Just make sure you take the carpet out of the sunlight right after the stain disappears. If you don't, it might start to take the color out of your carpet.

is the carpet wool or man made?

I only recommend using this on synthetic materials, not natural fibers like wool or silk, etc.
