Removing whole engine to change rocker cover is cheating! 😂 Just joking. I have done this recently on my 335d n57 - took me "only" 16 hours. (with engine in place) Never done this before and was going slow plus few visits to the shop to get few tools I was missing. Just a question... What's the torque for that camshaft sensor at the back of the cover? Mine seems to leak oil... Great video!

Thank you for the nice comment. Yes, it is definitely much easier with the engine out and essensial in my case as I want to film it well and be able share quality content. The correct torque for the camshaft sensor is 3.6nm My smallest torque wrench starts from 6nm so you will have to find a very fine torque wrench or just make sure you install a new O-ring and go by feel🤝🏻

Hi mate, nice and clear video., I have the same problem with N57, oil is leaking through the cover gasket and dripping on the exhaust which is making some smokes under the bonnet. My mechanic is telling me that he needs to change the whole cover and insisted to get it from bmw (£400). He is saying that there is pressure relief valve which may failed and there is no way to change without changing the whole valve cover. Any thoughts? Thanks

If you trust your mechanic go with what he says. I personally used the original valve cover with a new Febi gasket. I also replaced the breather pipe which was £12 on ebay. 10k miles later not a sigle drop of oil. You will have to decide as you will have to pay for the parts🤝🏻

Hello, Amazing Video, I have one of the 23 screws that fix the cover to the block broken, is it possible to replace it? And is possible to replace to seals without removing the engine? I have N57N engine on F30 330d.

@@relaxingandsleepingtv You should be able to replace both gasket and bolt without having to remove the engine. Just make sure you obtain the exact same length bolt as it is crucial. I have an oil leak which looks like the rocker cover on mine I've done the diesel mini before but this one is a design from hell. If it's leaking around the rocker cover i don't suppose it could be anything else? Thanks great vid.

Hi Sean. Very common issue with BMW in general. This is the only thing that will leak in that area. I am afraid it will have to be done so be prepared to get your hands dirty buddy. It is a big job but will be worth it when done😉

Iv been told just to leave it and drive is that a good idea ?

If it doesn't seem like a good idea to leave it then it is not a good idea. It will slowly increase over time and will make a mess. It is also very dangerous as it will start burning on hot surfaces and you and your family will breath it. It is toxic and kids can develop lung problems

just did this job on my 4 cylinder N47 but I couldn't swap the injector copper washer. I did my best to clear debris from the injector seat though. Do you think I should reopen them and change it?

I have always replaced them with new ones, but if it is not causing any trouble you can leave it for now. If no issues may be it has sealed well and you will be ok. Thanks for your message🤝🏻

Just bought a 530d that had a new chain a month ago. Now the rocker is leaking if not split. Been bodged with sealant. The garage who did the chain wants nothing to do with it.

My E90 Lci N47 has exhaust fumes in the engine bay area on the exhaust side of the engine. The valve cover has an ever so slightly oil leak on that side but nothing crazy. Could it be the culprit for the exhaust gas smells? The exhaust manifold gaskets look ok, no soot on them. It is driving me crazy from where that smoke comes ...

I would start with the replacement of the valvecover gasket as the oil is leaking and getting burnt on the exhaust manifold. Get that sorted as I have heard all sort of stories about babies, kids and adults developing lung problems.

@@TheKeenMechanic Thank you. Will do ASAP. Currently, no oil has landed on the exhaust manifold, but exhaust fumes are definetly present in the engine bay, and I already replaced the gasket between exhaust manifold and DPF, and EGR.
