I've watched a lot of youtube videos about OA vaporization and have been concerned about adding high heat into a wood box with a lot of wax in it. Yours is the first video that acknowledges that concerns and your scraping technique looks smart.
in your video you pull out your beetle trap and it looks like it is made from the same political signs from your other video where you use it as a spacer on your lid? how do you make your beetle traps?
I cut pieces 3"×5" with the holes running along the 5"edge. Then I cover the holes on one edge with shortening. I then flip them over to the other side and sprinkle Boric acid in the wholes. Half full is plenty. Then cover these holes also with shortening. Place on bottom board a push to the back of the hive. Keeping the holes aligned with the sides of the hive so the Beetles can access the shortening. When they eat through the shortening this will expose the boric acid which will in turn kill the beetles.
Thank you for your video and I also had and have concerns about the heat in using such method. I made my own vaporizer and while I was trying to find out if I could get it into the hive, I got attacked by many bees in no time. I am still not sure what the right way is before using the OA. Do you remove the honey supers before treatment? When do you use it?
J & B Homeliving , yes remove honey supers during treatment if you plan on harvesting the honey. Do a powdered sugar roll and get a mite count to see if needed. They are also a new Co2 method to get a count without killing the bees.
