Hi sir, nice tutorial. Can you make a video that deals with all things inside material graph. Also I cannot understand why you use screen blend mode, and then what does opacity, diffuse, specular does. I am so confused on these basics. Thank you.

Thanks for your comment. These videos aren’t really made for complete beginners. I have some others on my channel that are more beginner friendly. I recommend reading some of the KeyShot user manual to learn the basics!

awesome tutorial!! is nice to see how do you use more procedural textures instead of normal ones. I often have issues dealing with the curvature node as opacity, your technique using color composite looks much easier. thanks!

Oh, cool! Yeah, I use the masking method quite a lot. I’m glad you found some value in this one. Thanks for the comment!

I cant preview the curvature texture with the GPU mode! i do have a compatible RTX card in my laptop (2060)
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
This is because procedural textures aren't supported by GPU mode. Check Luxion's documentation on GPU limitations.

hi will thanx for the tutorial ...i tried this with my own model...and face same problem with body texture..try re-tessellate...but for my model this option is mute...my question is "what should i do to get this option when i export my model..i use maya 2018.6 by the way...thanx.
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 5 лет назад
Hi, if you start with a mesh, you can't retessellate. Retessellation can only be done to NURBs data. Maya creates meshes via polygonal modelling. When you use a NURBS/CAD application, and export a NURBS solid like a Step file, it'll come into KeyShot with the option to 'import NURBS', a small checkbox at the bottom of the import dialogue. This is why you don't have that option. Sorry! If you make sure all your surfaces are beveled before exporting from Maya, and make sure all your normals are facing outward, this should not happen when you use Displace. Good luck!

great tutorial! i'm kinda wondering though: in keyshot, their are many settings where you really just care about values from black to white (colour doesn't matter). Why do they confuse us and include colour in these settings? This would make things so much more understandable!
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 5 лет назад
This is a good and valid question. The reason is that even though you might often only use black and white, there are use-cases in which you would use color. It would be more restrictive to not allow color in these situations. So, unfortunately, you just have to learn when b&w makes sense vs. color. Hopefully watching my videos will help you get an idea of when to use what colors and values.

Great tutorial. I use it to set material on handgun. It looks great. But in my case need more blackish looks. I don't have Idea to do it, maybe need to adjust parameter little bit. Thanks
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons Год назад
It all depends on how the material is made. If metal, you can try adjusting the color. If there's a plastic label/paint layer, you can make that color darker and if needed, reducing the IoR should make it less reflective which will result in a darker look.

like and subscribed :) i have 1 issue - i cant select re-tessellate?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
Ah. I think this is because of what your import settings were when you imported the CAD model. You must have the box 'import NURBS' checked on to enable this feature later on inside of KeyShot. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Nice tutorial! I still struggle to understand the difference between roughness and refractive index
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 5 лет назад
Hi, ncvisuals. Ah, so, roughness has to do with how smooth a surface is. Refractive index has to do with how slow light moves through a material. When adjusting refractive index in KeyShot on a non-transparent material, it will have the effect of making the material look more metallic. I hope that helps.

hi can we add decal symmetrically in keyshot?
@WillGibbons

There is no mirror function for labels. That can be done if your CAD was modeled and then mirrored. But no built-in method to mirror a label in KeyShot.

Thanks Will, this was super helpful. I'm wondering if there's a way to render scratches? I am trying to render a worn skateboard for a class and want to scratch the trucks and tails of the skateboard. Thanks
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons Год назад
Yeah, there's a procedural scratches texture in KeyShot. However, they're pretty subtle and you can't customize them a ton. For a skateboard where you want lots of heavy scratching, I'd recommend studying some images and just painting a custom scratch texture in Photoshop. You can make it a black and white texture and use it as opacity mask.

hi can you give solution on banding problem of video i have tried lot of samples to get rid of banding on ground but it still appears plz give me suggestions this can help me in to much thank you wattling for your valuable rply
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
Try adding a ground plane (ctrl+g) that should help. Otherwise, you need to increase contrast in the gradients you make on the ground. Rendering out at a higher bit-depth (like 16 or 32-bit) will help as well.
@nikhilnaik3184
@nikhilnaik3184 4 года назад
@@WillGibbons yes i have added the ground plane and its a very simple animation of 20 sec and my render sampes were 320 i incresed to 400 500 but also same problem
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
@@nikhilnaik3184 Then it has to do with bit depth. Render samples won't help, you probably don't need that many. Read about it here and see if this explains it better: photographylife.com/what-is-color-banding-and-how-to-fix-it

Gracias!
