KeyShot Material Study: Rusty Metal. In this KeyShot tutorial I'll walk you through how to create the look of a rusty metal. I'll be layering a paint material using a rust bitmap texture on top of a shiny metal material and use the procedural curvature texture as an opacity map to reveal the shiny material beneath the rusty one.
1:05 : Shiny Metal
3:17 : Rusty Metal
5:54 : Procedural Curvature texture as opacity map

Great tutorial! Please do a video where you recreate some of Apple's product photography. I have been trying for months now, but it never looks anything as good :) Keep up the good work

+1 on this. I had terrible experiences when rendering white on white products with studio lighting.

I also struggle with the light a lot of times. I really like something like this one: images.apple.com/v/watch/home/c/images/bands_large.jpg or maybe this one: images.apple.com/v/apple-watch-series-2/b/images/gallery/watch_1_large.jpg or anyone for that matter :) Would be awesome!

I love your videos and workflow. You really do a good job of laying out your strategy and showing your approach to the material graph. I must say that it bothers me (just a little) that you created polished brass that's corroding into iron oxide. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi Esben, thanks a lot for the tutorial! Strangely enough, some of the mesh of the model is showing as black lines when I render the picture in those settings, which happens when I apply the paint with the curvature node. Do you know what could be going on?
@KevinCease
@KevinCease 5 лет назад
why wont the paint material work for me when I try to add it to the metal label1? it just wont link.
@Mark_5150

@KevinCease
@KevinCease 5 лет назад
@@Mark_5150 i figured it out. GO to your material window, click on labels, click on the plus sign, click on add material. Make sure your plastic material in the material graph is selected. It will then link them together.
