Thankyou, you have just saved me £100. Mower didn’t start and was about to purchase new one, when I saw this. In my case the switch replacement did the job. Thanks!
Thanks you so much for this video. Our local garden kit repair centre ordered a replacement switch from the Bosch genuine parts centre here in the UK - who supplied a massive large green handle then refused to accept that they had messed up! I shall be following your guidance in this video - and never buying Bosch again. Comments on Amazon repeatedly refer to this switch as a weak point.
YOU BEAUTY! I got my switch changed no problem, but the little flat spring fell out from the other side of the casing and I hadn't a clue where it went. Your video at the two minute mark showed me how to get it back. Thanks again!
Andrew Hill - YES! exact same thing happened here! Couldn’t find the spot for it anywhere! This vid and your message helped me to fit it back together. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 thanks
I'm about to order a new switch ready for spring, as mine broke at the end of last summer. Thanks for posting this video, it will help me out when replacing it 👍
Very useful indeed. I had more or less figured it out myself but your clear explanation would have saved me a couple of hours of fiddling about if I had watched it before and had a more confident approach. Many thanks.
About to bin my rotak 32R - took the cover off and found it completely clogged with grass inside. Gave it a good brush out and a little drop of oil for the motor and its working like a charm again. Youre a star mike :)
Very well explained and demonstrated. I have had similar problems years ago and got myself in a right pickle because I forgot to take pic of the housing prior to replacement. Sorted it in the end, but took longer than it should have.
Thanks for posting this video. It enabled me to re-fit the cable to the switch after my mother-in-law ran over and cut it off. Doh! Can we fix it? Yes we can! 👷♂
Thank you for taking the time to post this video. The lever handle broke on my two year old mower. Replacement part cost less than £6. I wouldn't have tackled repairing it myself without your guidance. I'm grateful to you.
Hi Elaine How did your red lever handle break? There's something wrong with mine but although I've dismantled it twice I can't see why it is not working. Nothing appears to be broken. I know the actual switch works so for some reason the plastic red lever is not pushing the switch to the on position.
Thanks for this, I was beside myself as to what to do, I actually went out and bought another mower that lasted less than 2 years. But, kept my Bosch for ‘just in case reasons’. It is still sitting precisely for this reason after watching your video, will be trying some of the repairs mentioned. Thank you🙏🏾
Thanks for this tip Michael. I had exactly the same problem on the Bosch Rotak Mower. My switch was working fine -The problem being the front wire connection on the motor. A loose connection ! It's going like a rocket now ! I was prepared to go to B&Q to get another mower !!! Not Now !!! Thanks Mate ;-)
Thank you Michael, by watching your video we managed to fix our lawn mower starter switch, the little metal spring popped out, only by watching your video did we know where it went. Many Thanks.
I did your checks, thanks for pointers. Mine turned out to be the cables at the switch. When the cable pulled it intermittently cut out. I just cable tied a loop to the handle so it didn't pull on the switch unit. Also another video shows these handles crack commonly, which feels like it's moving but it's not pressing the switch. The switches themselves are probably one of the less likely issues. Very robust. I also cleaned under the cover like you did, and the filter on the front. These do have a heat cutout in the motor as well.
Big Help, mate. Like you, thought i was replacing the switch, because i couldn't see screw heads. But you helped massively, demonstrating those push in connectors. My problem was the mains cable itself, had shorted out/ broken contact, just a few inches before if entered the switch assembly. So cable cut, ends trimmed, little bit of solder to make the wires stronger, pushed in the 'new end', fired up straight away. You were a BIG HELP buddy. Cheers B
A really simple fix for our dead Bosch Rotak lawnmower. I thought there was a broken switch but in the end it was a broken connection to the motor itself. Hopefully this will save someone from having to buy a new lawnmower.
Thank you Michael for this video .I have the rotak 34r and my red lever broke. While waiting for a new replacement from Ranson Spares co.uk.Ltd Yeovil.Som. I forgot where the spring for the lever was set., but your video put me right. I think the levers could be the weak part of the mower. But now I'm all ready to give the lawn a mow. Thanks again. Mick.
My red lever broke also but its a crack nearthe circular bit imma try and glue it with araldite but either way thats me done with bosch wont be buying their stuff again. Im no engineer but i can see the woeful design of that lever
I had a broken control lever so opened the switch housing and a little metal spring fell out. Yours is the only video I could find that shows where the spring fits in the switch housing. Thank you!
For everyone's interest, I had the same problem, but the cause in my case is the wire that runs down the handle and then goes into the motor cover was worn through. Where it reaches the point to turn and go through into the motor cover, it extends in a natural bend outside the "footprint" of the wheels. This meant that over years of cutting the grass edge which was against the side of my house, the rubbing against the bricks eventually wore through this wire, effectively cutting it. I'd suggest everyone who has one of these mowers have a look at their wire, and either re-route it or at least add some layers of tape to protect it. In addition, reading other comments, the motor itself was covered in grass cuttings which could easily catch fire under the right (wrong) circumstances. Cleaning this out is so simple. There are 2 screws, which will be covered by grass and sand, near to where the cover meets the grass box, and these can be removed and the cover just lifts straight off. Add hoover and there you go. The 2 screws are not very nice quality, so take care when taking them out, not to damage the philips heads.
Great video. I have the Bosh Rotak 430 Ergo Power electric lawnmower, the switch looks the same, but mine is in the middle of the handle, any videos. ?
The UTUBE video was very helpful. However, the problem on my Rotak 40 turned out to be a cable fault not the switch. The confusing thing was that the brown wire (live) was ok and my electricians screwdriver indicated it was ok (glow on indicator bulb). But after fitting the new switch as described, the mower still didn't work. I finally connected a test lamp to the power cable into the switch and discovered that it didn't work. Looks like the neutral wire (blue) had snapped internally. I cut of six inches of cable off and reconnected. Bingo! It worked. Problem was a cable fault caused presumably by flexing and jerking of the cable over several years. So check this first before buying a new switch. Note, initially the fault was intermittent, which makes sense now I know the cable had a fault due to wear and tear.
What a great video, great help, just what I needed thanks. Only problem is eSpares tell me that my model (Rotak 34R/TYP=3600HA6172) is not covered by one of the two they offer (they want to sell a complete handle assembly for £59! Both they do offer, look like mine, but unsure whether to take the risk. Any thoughts? Thx.
Hi. I managed to figure out there's a problem with my switch, then came across your video. Would it not be possible to just re-solder what looks like a large capacitor unit on the switch? Also, seeings as you didn't need your switch in the end would you like to sell it?
_ That "little box" on the switch is called a capacitor. If I saw it correctly, this is a 300 Volt AC capacitor of value 0.15 micro-Farads. _ So the problem could be related to the capacitor and not the switch itself.
Hi Michael I've dismantled the switch housing on by 360 Bosch Lawnmower after the mower stopped working. The switch is fine because I have wedged the switch with a piece of wood and the mower works ok. The problem is the red lever and I can't make out what has happened to it. Before it stopped working the red lever felt a bit floppy but I can't see any broken bits. Any ideas?
My Bosch kept starting but then kept slowly losing power after a minute so checked the motor wiring, fuse change and switch wiring but all secure so but am hesitant about buying a switch replacement. Wont start at all now so either switch replacement or new mower. Anyone had the same symptoms and what worked for you?
Very good and interesting. But was it not logical to show people about taking the lower cover off and checking the wires are in - before messing about with the switch...... given that the problem was not the switch in the first place ?
Can u change the title to how to waste a tenner? Lol only joking. Thank you so much for your efforts I'm going to try and fix mine will try the things you have done
I've gone to remove the cables from my switch and they've ripped away, leaving little stumps in the switch barbs. Nightmare! Not sure what I can do now...
Simply trim back the cablecover and twist the wire into a tight bunch of wires and then push it into the hole in the switch which will grab it. It does not matter if the old switch has the remains in it - your going to bin it anyway
Hi I moved in to a house, where the owner left this in the garage, it runs, but after a while, maybe 1-2 mins, it stops and then i will not start again, then i wait maybe 5-10mins then it will run again for 1-2 mins. Is that normal?
+Michael Hein (Borg Digital) no extension cable being used but i have checked cable,it was being pulled quite tight at the time of mowing and then just stopped.First thing i did was check fuse and connections.
Recensies bekeken. Meerdere gebruikers hadden de exacte problemen. Conclusie: geen Rotak maaimachine kopen. Doet zijn naam Bosch geen eer aan. Prut
