Welcome to Eric's Guitar Amplifier Repair. Today we will begin the Fender Twin Reverb repair series. This is part 1 of 3. I will be performing a general service including replacing the coupling capacitors after the phase inverter stage with paper and oil type capacitors.

thanks for sharing, Preparing for my own restoration of a SuperTwin Reverb (an odd one). This video really helps in preparation. BTW, Your link to the website if broken. I was wondering which deoxit versions you use for what parts. Also, there seems to be a lot of wax on the older boards. I heard that with older amps and micro dirt collected in the wax you can get DC current passing between components. Whats your stance on it.

Let’s talk about Deoxit . This is the product I use and recommend for all diy and future technicians to use. I use there D5 line. As far as the wax type circuit boards. These tend to warp and become inductive when the unit is exposed to moisture. The best fix is to use a turret board type to replace the wax type board. However this drops the vintage market value. Thanks for the vid, nice sound fx! A friend of mine, long time amp tech, done 100s of tube amps, told me to NOT use deoxit on high voltage/current bearing terminals, claiming that the lubricating film residue can burn, causing problems with conductance. What’s your take on this, given what I saw in this video?

Excellent question. Attached is the data sheet where you will find the application data. In short. Deoxit protects and improve contact on high voltage terminal such as tube sockets reducing voltage arcing etc. The dominant chemical properties is mineral oil which is used in high voltage pulse paper in oil capacitors. Deoxit is the standard manufacturing procedure for all amplifier service.
