Thanks! I watched this video to see what steps are required (zero experience with basic plumbing) and it gave me the confidence to fix a leaky sink drain myself. I actually bought the correct wrench, and while it was $16 that I might only use once, I think it made tightening the nut a lot easier. I didn't have a cardboard circle so I made one from a cereal box.

I just wanted to thank you for this video! You saved me almost 200.00 that I didn't even have. I would have had to do without a sink till I saved up enough have it fixed. Instead, I found this video and it was under 45.00 for everything I had to buy and I followed your instructions. No more leak! Thank you so much! God bless you!

My basket does not go right down to the pipe I can move it all over almost like the pipe is not tall enough. It goes down to the sink in the basement maybe it got lower and dragged it down ? Thanks

The part about just tapping the flange with a screw driver and a few whacks with a hammer is where my project stopped. Any suggestions on how to loosen the flange when it doesn't want to come off?

You can buy a wrench in the plumbing section of HD or Lowes.

It looks pretty straight forward, but you said 'clean it' but you didn't say what you were using to clean it. Can you clarify how to, 'clean it'?

It looks like you are missing the water trap to keep sewer gas from rising up through he pipes into your house.

mecu57 at around 3:58 into the video you briefly see it. It's a flexible rubber one with two metal clamps.

Why would you need to use plumbers putty when you can use rubber gasket at top that works very well which is what I am using never had any leaks & less messy... Plumbers putty is a thing of the past...

I tried at least 5 times using plumbers putty on a new sink basket and each time it leaked. I read your post and used a rubber gasket instead. Worked perfectly!! If I did not see your post I would of had to call a plumber. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

Can i use sealer silicone instead of the potty
@BurtBowers
@BurtBowers 3 года назад
@@pato0526 Four years later things have changed I changed out all my sinks bathroom & kitchen & now I went & used GE 100% clear silicone not even rubber gaskets I use anymore other then the bottom for kitchen sink its required but yes you can use silicone but 100% silicone though before you apply to the top of sinks be sure to use rubbing alcohol to be sure there is no oils residue then apply silicone around bottom of drain ring or the sink itself for me I apply enough around the drain ring works great...do not use plumbers putty which will fail in short time I havent had any leaks, silicone will last years, God bless

is the cardboard necessary?
@JPaone
@JPaone 7 лет назад
Will Swinney the cardboard allows the nut to be tightened without wrinkling the rubber gasket.
