Inspect and repair microwave for carousel or turntable for not spinning. Use caution while working on a Microwave and insure the power is off or the microwave is unplugged.
I live in a boarding house with seven boarders including myself. The house manager had purchased a used Toshiba microwave that worked fine for a few weeks. Then, the turntable stopped working. She thought it was because one of us had gotten water on the turntable. Meanwhile, we kept using the microwave. However, I like popcorn, and, with the turntable no longer working, the popcorn popper couldn't rotate. I was thinking about buying a new one when I checked online for a possible cause and found it could be the motor stopped working. After watching this video, I think I'll suggest the manager ask her husband to replace the motor which would be cheaper than buying a new microwave. Thanks for determining the problem, the solution, and filming how to replace the motor.
It's fun when you can diagnose correctly and get the replacement part and make it work again. Karin and I have repaired both of our commercial ovens, a microwave and our 20 year old espresso machine. Thanks to e-bay we can get parts for nearly everything. Thanks Lloyd!
Thank you very much for making the video and sharing it. It is quite impressive. I could not find an exact match for my Turntable motor assembly. So I was forced to overhaul the motor assembly. My first try failed. I had to redo the entire process of overhauling the motor assembly all over again and was successful. Keep up the good work. You explained very nicely.
I just replaced the magnetrons and turntable motors on two almost identical LG microwaves. They had identical problems after exactly 4 years. I waited to repair the first one until the second one broke. Now I have two. I am never buying another piece of crap that ends up in a landfill with the ones from my 320 million fellow citizens. Save the earth! The magnetrons were $30, and the turntable motors were $10. Microwaves were $200 each. It took a lot of my time following videos, but this 67 yo female is glad it worked! Hope they last. I was hoping you would identify the grease they seem to put under the motor. In my earlier model, the black wire inserted on the left, and in the latter model, the white wire inserted on the left. They added a second high voltage fuse to the latter model, which they sell for $12 because only LG makes a 5K volt 0.95 amp fuse, so I used 1 amp. I don't think you really need a second fuse.
Great repair job. Another Great Day in the Shop with you. And your reward popped right up. Thanks for sharing your smarts with us and have a great week my Friend. BigW:-)
The manufacturer must have known some day that motor would crap out. I never had one not spin for me, I'll check the motor first thing. Good job with the DIY motor replacement.!!
I loved this! Test my Brain, Eyesight, Memory & Math. Red \ White wires, guess it doesn't matter if switched^ ... not finished watching, yet. 180 = 1\2 of 360. "190 degrees" huh? lol See, Great Fun! ?? > How did you Run Microwave on it's side (H2O included)? put on side - turn on? ^will motor just turn other way? mine jumps\ sticks re: mess*\ leak or lost tooth? =\ Quite the Lovely Box, Treasure that Motor. i 'thought' i was silly. Well... 1st thing i question IS my 'Brain'. haha i just did Not want to Cut Tabs - already cleaned mess* in High Voltage area. What'd they cook?! ugh Removing bottom, to also clean base, much to unscrewed! .. yes i held heavy Transformer, BUT - more + no way ... Took a time to put screws back. Back to .. Cutting the tabs. Now must find screw, have lots, but correct? still fun. New Fuse ... we'll see. 8 ) ^ [NO], did you flip back? Thanks.
Thanks! I was wondering what the motor cost. Great job with the troubleshooting, and you're right, that was an ingenious way to do the motor access panel.
Good repair there. Those motors, by the way, will give a nasty jolt if you spin the shaft and touch the terminals at the same time. Do you know what happened to the old motor? Was is seized as you said? Did you try and unstick it at all? Just curious.
Hi Rusty After you did the voltage test and let the motor hang, how did you verify it was still not working? Did you hit the start button while plugged in? Thx
I don't know if it matters or not. But did you notice that you reversed the wires on the motor? And what did the motor cost? It was a good video and a diagnoses.
I have this exact microwave in my trailer. The motor is getting voltage and doesn't turn. When I order, all of the MDS-4A motors say 220v on them, where mine says 120v. Same part number and specifications otherwise. Do you remember that being the case when you fixed this one?
@@RustyGlovebox I ended up buying one with a different part number, but the same specifications. All of the MDS-4A motors on Amazon say 220 volts on their specifications. We'll see if it works. Thanks for the video.
I have checked the turntable motor it is working but current supply to the motor is not found so pls suggest me is their any fuse or relay to control power supply to motor and door bulb. The my samsung microwave 28liter capacity ,I am from India so pls give me suggestions to resolve the rotation problem .
Make sure the microwave is unplugged. Be sure to stay away from the magnatron to avoid electroction . You should see a glass fuse that controls the main power supply.
I have a 18yr old over the range Maytag microwave and the motor must of went bad at least I'm hoping. The drive will turn on its own until I put the glass plate down and the drive don't seem to have the power to turn while that glass plate is on it. For $20 or so I think I'm going to order that motor, new over the range microwaves in the size I have are around $400+ and then Id have to special order one because I want black and I don't like looks of stainless steal! I think the $20 motor part will be worth the guess and save some $ if it works. My 24 yr old whirlpool refrigerator could go bad anytime now and looks like I'm going to run into the same problem all stores pushing that ugly stainless steal.
@@RustyGlovebox Took me 5 minutes to drop the bottom cover on my microwave range pull old motor and replace with new motor, works great! Took the old motor apart and was 6 tiny gears inside, one gear had a tiny piece of flash or burr on it that caused the turntable to stop turning. Similar thing happened to my garage door opener the plastic drive gear inside the garage door opener broke, new drive gear cost me $11 with shipping to fix and that was 6 years ago and garage opener still working today.
I bought a KAMBROOK MICROWAVE but just 2 months down the like its no longer turning.its glass tray is turning freely if i turn it manually.if i remove that glass then bottom star which holds that glass is very loose.you can move it up and down freely and rotating freely it seems there is nothing holding it at the bottom.maybe the motor has shifted
