How to replace the turntable or carousel motor in a Sharp 1850 microwave convection oven. The shop wanted to charge $150 for this but we bought the part for $18 and the repair took about 20-30 minutes once we had the part. We ordered the part from Amazon because it was not available locally where we were camping. This is a microwave convection oven that is in our 2004 Monaco RV and is about 10 years old. This may be the easiest repair I have done on anything!

whoever gave this a thumbs down is CRAZY. I had a massive stroke 6 years ago, couldn't afford a new convection/microwave. I ordered the mother which I got for $9.68 on Amazon, 2 new lights for $1.46 each. had your video playing as I was fixing. I DID IT!!!!! Thank you soo much. If I can do it, anyone can. I can't than you enough

This is a great video. I had the infamous *59 second* issue with this microwave and, the oven had to be removed and partially disassembled for that fix. But, we now have the turn table cease to work and, hopefully, it will be as easy as this video shows. I surely appreciate you taking the time to make and show this video. Very much appreciated. SR

I'm hoping replacing the turntable motor on a counter-top model works the same way. Your video was very easy to follow. Thank you & God bless, Linda

I was being lazy and didn't bother to unplug the unit before swapping the motor. Ended up tripping the breaker/ GFCI. After resetting however the microwave was still dead. Only to find hidden behind the control panel along the door latch mechanism is another ceramic 20A 6x30 fuse. At first thought the control panel may have gotten burned out since there was still power coming into the machine. But as a safety measure the exhaust fan will bypasses that fuse and still run automatically in case of a range fire.

Boyfriend overseas and I have ordered the part and will fit it myself. Note on my tabletop one, I have to open the metal casing by cutting a few metal strips and opening it like a sardine can.

I just repaired the motor instead. I took the motor apart. Inside it has a donut shaped magnet. At the top and bottom of the magnet there are 4 tiny tiny square bumps. The center nylon gear drops into the donut and locks onto the top 4 tiny tiny square bumps. All 4 of them on the top were now worn down. Fortunately the donut is identical on the bottom side, and thus has 4 non-worn bumps on this other side. So I removed the donut, flipped it over, and then reinstalled it, and reassembled the motor.. The turntable is now up and spinning again. Total repair cost, $0.00.

THANKS. Previously my oven blew a 120 VAC fuse, and a thermal fuse, and all this happened because of a defective door microswitch which was intermittent and arcing. On the way to the beer store, along with my foldable shopping cart, I spotted a microwave oven at the curb. It was being disposed of. On the way back from the beer store, I popped this oven into my cart and took it home. It turned out that all the parts that I needed were available, 100% compatible, and still 100% working in this particular oven. So I transferred the parts and bingo my oven was up and going once again. I also removed some other working components from the scrapped oven for any possible future need. Total repair cost, $0.00.

By the way, my stainless steel microwave oven was said to be a "DEMO" oven, and so I got it for just $40. In truth, it turned out to be a "DUD" oven because the keyboard was not 100% working. Instead of taking it back to the store, I took it apart, removed the flex connector that attaches the keyboard to the control board, cleaned the contacts, reinstalled it into the control board, and bingo, it has been working 100% ever since. Total repair cost, $0.00.

I have the Sharp R1855A and my turntable seemed to be stuck. It would turn a bit and then stop and then try to turn the other way, and then stop. I took the motor apart and found nothing like what like you are talking about. I examined the gear train under a magnifying glass and it all looked good. The one area that was questionable was the pinion that drives the gear on the microwave. The grease was all burned up there. So I cleaned the gears and then lubricated them with gear oil (80/90) and then reinstalled it. That alone was worthwhile because it's now fully lubricated again. What I determined was the answer was increased drag on the tri-lobed device under the platter in the body of the microwave. The three white wheels had debris on them and the track they ride in also had debris. After cleaning the wheels and the track - voila. It works again! So it appears mine is very sensitive to debris or oils under the white wheels. The good news? You don't need to remove anything to clean it other than the tray and the tri-lobed device the tray rides on. In other words, clean the microwave more often!

@@bobjones3725 I hate having to clean anything too often. So whatever I put in the microwave oven, I make sure that a cover is included such that no food will end up on the ovens walls and/or ceiling. For instance, I held on to several of frozen dinner black plastic microwavable bowls. So if I am heating perhaps a bowl of soup, I place an empty frozen dinner bowl on top of the soup bowl. That keeps everything in the soup bowl zone. I also rest the soup bowl itself in another empty frozen dinner bowl such that once the soup is heated up, I can then remove it from the oven without having to touch the actual hot soup bowl itself. Anyhow, that sure cuts down on how often I have to clean the oven.

Thanks. The part just came in ($22 now) and it was easy to replace. we blew a fuse, and now we can't get the microwave to turn on. Has that happened to anyone while doing this simple repair?
@RichWatkins

Hi Carmen, actually the microwave in our RV later quit working like yours and it ended up being a loose connection in the electric circuit that supplied the microwave. We plugged in a circuit tester (you can plug any other electric device into the plug you use for the microwave) and you will know if the problem is in the microwave or the electric outlet. If the outlet is good then you know the problem is in your oven.
