In this video I'm going to show you how to replace a floor pan, inner rocker panel, front cab support, footwell/kick panel and front A-pillar repair panel on a 1971 Chevy C-10. These techniques can also be used on Chevrolet C10, C20, C30 and GMC trucks, Blazer and Jimmy 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972.
The C10 panels I used were from Goodmark and LMC Truck. Every repair patch panel was welded with a Lincoln Power MIG 140, with a 75/25 shielding gas.

The part I needed to see how to get that plate out for the left front cab support where you start is the point of rebuilding I’ll search on

You just have to find all the spot welds and drill them out and that plate will come out.

The finished product looks fantastic. I'm doing the same to my 68 but not as extensive. I have new inner rocker/ floor patch, lower door pillar, floor brace and rocker that I'm cutting and fitting now. I started with easier project like the gas filler hole and some patching of the inner door where a speaker used to exist. Patience has been the hardest thing to maintain. Great video.

You did a good job on this. I recently did some less invasive rust repair on my channel with a 64 C10. I ended up not using the floor panel patches as they were intended to be used though. The rust on my floor pan went too far up on the firewall for the patch panels to work. Enjoyed the vid, you got a sub my man.

I'm fixing my floor pan too, today I completed the left cab support, but 1 have almost a week trying to fit the new floor pan, when I put it the bolt hole doesn't want to align and I'm just losing my mind, but watching your videos always give me a little bit of hope. Greetings from Mexico

Thanks for the kind words! Don't stress about fitment issues, that's something you will always run into. Most of these aftermarket stamping are pretty bad. Sometimes it feels like you're trying to insert a square block into a circular hole.

Nice job on welding in the patch pieces. Nice level of detail and good camera work. A project like this is in my future, but for now I need to weld a Brothers repair piece into my radiator support. It's a California truck, but battery acid affects us all.
@BustedClassicGarage
@BustedClassicGarage 6 лет назад
Lack of Focus thanks for watching! My radiator support is shot, I thought about welding patches in but I definitely don't think it's worth the time, mine is in really bad shape since it's a Illinois car.
@MLFranklin
@MLFranklin 6 лет назад
I hear you. Mine is borderline. Not sure I'd approach it again in this way. Sure, it's $65 for the patch vs. $270 for the whole new core -- and that's significant to my budget -- but if I had really seen the extent of my rust before starting, I think I would just bite the bullet and buy the new one. Lots of stuff that the patch doesn't reach also has rust issues.

I just had to replace the driver's floor, and (on both sides) inner and outer rockers, lower a-pillars (inside) and kick panels. I also extended the trans tunnel so I can have a hand brake and floor shift in my truck. Then I popped a tendon on my wrist punching holes in a panel I needed to plug weld.

So, you think the power Mig 140 is the only way to go, or you think the pro mig 140 is capable? I’ve got the pro mig mig 140 with the 75/25 mixture of gas, looks like I’ll be rebuilding my entire 72 C-20 deluxe that was my dads that he left my twin brother and with every nut, bolt, panels, and even window seals, and felt to restore it all. I have the pro mig because I figured it would be enough, and would have gotten the power mig if my cousin who builds custom hand railing with his, and only uses flux core😂 he can’t use the shielding gas to save his life but can flux it in any day, and I’m the exact opposite
@BustedClassicGarage
@BustedClassicGarage 9 месяцев назад
Dude I think you should be fine. I restored a Chevelle back in my twenties with a underpowered Harbor Freight stick welder. It sucked but I got the job done. LOL! I think the only problem you'll run into is needing to weld up thicker steel but you should be fine with sheetmetal repairs. I'm about to build a custom hitch, roll cage and make stands for some of my metal fab tools so I just picked up a Eastwood MP AC/DC 200i.

Hey, I just recently purchased a right angle die grinder to start the process on my 70 K10, what kind of attachments would you recommend for it? I also have a 3" cut off tool which I will be using for cutting stuff like the cab corners, rockers and floor. Thanks!
@Ariev
@Ariev Год назад
Also another thing to ask, would you recommend taking the cab off of the frame for doing floor stuff if I can, or should I keep it on the frame until I have the floor done, then take it off and replace the rear support? Planning to do a raptor line kit on the bottom of the floor too which I will for sure take the cab off the frame to do.
@BustedClassicGarage
@BustedClassicGarage Год назад
There are a lot of attachments for those. Wire wheels, roloc disks, sanding disks, stripping disks, etc. Google 3M Roloc application guide, you will get alot of great info. Also I have some items in my Amazon store to give you an idea on what I use in the videos. www.amazon.com/shop/bustedclassicgarage/?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_aipsfshop_aipsfbustedclassicgarage_E0FF42JQ11SBT5481NNW

You could always make a rolling cart and use the 4 cab mount holes to mount the cab to. I wouldn't cut up too much unless that cab is on a cart/stand, frame or it's braced. The best thing to do is just take a ton of measurements if you aren't gonna brace it. I've been working on a 69 C-10 recently and I cut apart the entire cowl, firewall and front corners. I took a bunch of measurements and welded a piece of steel from the floor to the top of the window channel. So far so good. I'll be uploading that video sometime in May.

I have a 71 I am rebuilding from ground up but my question is what welding wire are using ? I was using 0.30 and then told to use 0.23 and still burn through even with my welder turned all the way down?
@BustedClassicGarage

I'm using .23 wire. If you're still burning through you could do shorter bursts when spot welding or increase the distance between the gun to the work surface.

@BustedClassicGarage
@BustedClassicGarage 24 дня назад
@PatriceRobert20 I'm not sure if this is the piece but I would just do some searching on google. Also find a company that deals with later model ford trucks and see if they can lead you in the right direction. With the truck being fairly new, I would grab a electric cut off wheel and head over to the local junkyard and try to find a truck that has a decent floor and cut the piece that you need off a junkyard truck.

Can you replace the front cab supports without cutting out the floors?
@BustedClassicGarage
@BustedClassicGarage 4 года назад
Yes, I would drill the spot welds from the inside of the cab. That way you're not having to weld upside down which is never fun. There are some spots that you are going to have to drill from underneath. Like the welds holding that plate on top of the cab support that is in the thumbnail pic.

How much is to much rust? I have a 78 chevy and the floors/rockers/supports are shot. They make replacement everything. Is the fab worth it or just look for s less rusty cab?

Not sure about the squarebodys but with mine it's really common to have rotted rockers and floors. If you can find a pristine one go for it but that might be a challange.

I bought these at Goodmark a long time ago. The cab corner pieces that I bought were from eBay through a company called Auto Metal Direct. I believe Summit or Jegs sells AMD panels also. A lot of these panels are stamped at the same place and are just sold under different company names.
