A client gave me a box of melted video tape and asked if I could repair and save the tapes. This is the first video of a three part series of me trying to recover these severely damaged tapes.

They know the oven does not serve to store VHS tapes? 😁 Simply amazing the tape survived the carnage!

I'm still in disbelief that the tape survived. However, I have 2 or 3 more VHS tapes that look the same way.

My brother with zero-forethought put the box of ALL 50-ish of our family home movies on the ledge of the gas fireplace 2 days before I was to pick it up to digital transfer the contents. He melted the cases almost all of them. I was devastated to say the least! Now I have hope since some of them seem to have intact film. Thank you for this video!

That is terrible! If the tape itself is not damaged there is hope. This reminds me of a time when I first got into video production. My boss had shot about 20 hours of training footage on mini dv tapes. I was later hired to edit the videos. He had placed all of the tapes on a huge speaker. Of course, speakers have magnets in them. When I went to play the mini dv tapes, they had all been wiped clean from the magnet which is also called degaussed.
