One of my favorite cooking devices is my Blackstone Griddle. It is so easy and fun to cook some delicious tasting food on a Griddle, and I highly recommend them if you are considering getting one.
But what about when you experience some peeling and flaking on your Griddle surface? How are you suppose to fix it?
In this video I share my personal experience with that exact problem. If you are experiencing a similar problem with your Griddle surface watch my video to see how I was able to bring my damaged Griddle surface back to life, using the Blackstone Cleaning Kit.

Thanks, Eric. Finished product seemed to meet your realistic expectations. From watching long videos on Blackstone owners using power paint removal tools, orbital sanders (60 & 80 grit discs), and other power resurfacing tools .... your $20 kit and limited expenditure of time and effort yielded a serviceable result without hours of hard work, flying debris or a air filtration mask.

That was my point of this video. I knew the surface definitely needed some help, but the thought of grinding it down and starting completely over seemed way overboard. This did what I wanted, and once I starting cooking on it again more frequently it starting looking even better. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!

I would think one would want to start completely over. I prefer my griddle completely smooth. That's the best way to have it be non-stick. I originally seasoned mine with grape-seed oil and used that for over a year, then recently switched to avocado oil, and the finish began to lift. I think there was a chemical conflict between the two. So now I'm searching for information on how to re-season.

If you want to spend hours completely grinding down the griddle surface go right ahead. In my opinion it is not necessary, as flaking is due to over applying oil. Scrape off the excess and re-season with light coats of oil. Quicker and effective, without the hassle of grinding down the surface completely.

Use a 40 grit flap disc and lightly knock it down to raw iron. Clean well with power washer and then reseason. Mine turned out excellent.

Been cooking on it regularly. Here is a video from a few weeks ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m4Ac6dNXi3E.html I think the secret is cleaning it after each use and applying a thin layer of oil. Crank up the heat till it is smoking and put it away. Thanks for stopping by!

I wonder why it chipped like that? I just bought one and am trying to get acquainted.

I think I used too much oil after cleaning it, which builds up like that. This surface is tough, so just scrape and apply a light amount of oil. Good luck with your new one, and thanks for leaving a comment!

Also using a sugary sauce...i.e. bbq sauce, stir fry sauce.. can start eating the finish up.

Everything sticks to my new Blackstone?

Nothing should stick if it is seasoned. Find a good video on seasoning it. I oil mine before and after every use. So if I'm going to cook something, I get the griddle to desired temp, then lay a thin layer of oil down over the whole thing. Wipe with paper towels. When I'm done cooking, I go through a clean-up process with warm water on a warm grill, scrap everything off, then raise the temp and lay down another layer of oil. Wipe with paper towels.

I took a wire wheel with a drill to mine and took it down to the bare metal again. Wire wheel is $6 at Home Depot.

I was trying to avoid doing that in this video. It isn't a perfect reseasoning, but it allowed me to clean it up for many more successful cooks.

Welp, just put blue tarp around my grill gazebos. Getting ready for Wisconsin Winter cooks. I have my auto kamado & flat iron griddle inside. Think I will take a wire wheel drill to it this week.

Wisconsin here as well! I used the Wire Wheel on my original Blackstone. On my new Blackstone, I use Blackstone Seasoning ONLY. I apply it with a !lichen towel, my top looks good as new 2 years later!
