If you would add a little dawn to your water it will help the epoxy not to stick to your hands and help you to smooth out your apoxy. I mount fish and this tip was passed on to me. Really helpful. Enjoyed your video and thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with your subscribers.

I've used white apoxie sculpt & colored it with blood. Keep some in the freezer when you gut a deer. Walnut hulls work ok but blood is the best match I've found. Probably because the velvet is bloody. Rub on a little dirt to blend it in & it's all natural & really fast.

I love your videos! I am an artist and sculptor of mainly wildlife, and I have been interested in taxidermy since I was a little kid. After watching your awesomely informative videos, I am going to mount my first deer very soon. As a sculptor, I would like to offer a couple of tips for rebuilding the broken antlers. I would use some 5 minute epoxy to "glue in" the wire armature into the base antler so it stays put for you. Then, after that is set and cured, wrap a small Guage wire around the thick armature wire...around and around, do it messily but tightly all the way to the tip and then back down to the base, criss crossing up and back and cut the thin wire off at the base and tuck the end in. This will give the apoxie sculpt something to adhere to and stop twisting around on the main wire. It will also keep the apoxie sculpt from sagging down while it is curing. I do this on the entire armature when creating a sculpture. It really helps, and I believe it will help you out a lot. Thank you for all of your hard work and sharing it all with us!

I’d like to shoulder mount sheds. You know of a good way to mount sheds to the head? Was thinking of using Clay and apoxie sculpt…would that last you think since nothing would be screwed to the form?
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles 10 месяцев назад
You can buy a fake skull plate from most taxidermy suppliers that has 2 posts that can be epoxied into drilled bases of sheds and then the cap can be used like the original 🤙

What color apoxie sculpt is best for deer antlers?Do you mix any colors with it before mixing?How do you get the repaired antler to look good(not repaired)??
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles Год назад
I paint the entire repair. I have used natural and brown apoxie sculpt, and prefer the brown. When I am modeling the antler, I work all the texture in with a modeling tool, and the brown creates more of a shadowed look than the natural did when I paint the highlights

Do you put a base coat and then stain it or how do you do it?

@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles Год назад
I use matte and then buff the paint lightly once it is fully cured. Satin would probably do well too though. Antler does have a little shine to it.
@billygoat1708
@billygoat1708 8 месяцев назад
Why would you do it that way? I take a point from another antler and attach with wire (like you do). Then you only have to patch at the joint. I use Sculpall 2 part epoxy. It is off white. Easier to make it darker than to make it lighter in color.
@thecedarridgechronicles
@thecedarridgechronicles 8 месяцев назад
That works great if you have extra antler laying around. Also, starting with a dark color leaves a darker look in the low spots of the rebuild and the high spots are easier to highlight
