Ok I been trying to learn this art for a long time I've tried getting jobs at all the local shops and let's just say they aint been friendly about teaching. So I have read tones of stuff and then found your channel and I gotta give you your props your vids are great up close and personal and very helpful I recently just mounted my 1st deer and iaint gonna win no show but I'm very pleased with the results and learned a few things along the way. So thank you for all you do but most importantly thank you for being willing to share your knowledge

Daniel, Great work as usual, love the vid. I know you’re all about efficiency- look at the Nickey Bonura ear liners with ear butts from Jim Allred Taxidermy. May save you clay and time. Same taxi that showed me those also showed me how to pre stitch the back of the cape before you slide it on, and honestly it did save me some headache on the stitching.

Hey I really enjoy your taxidermy videos that you post. Several months ago you did a video about the fleshing machine that you got. I was wondering if you could do another video about the learning curve to get the hang of it an about if it has helped your process be more efficient or not.

Thanks for making this content. What are the first steps you do after the client drops off his cape/rack and leaves the shop? Directly to the freezer until you have time to flesh, or do you have to flesh right away? I'd be curious to know the intake process involved from drop off to fleshing. So after you tan the hide and let it sit over night, is there anything else you do to it before you mount it on the form the next morning?

These videos are amazing. Thank you for all the details. My husband is an avid hunter. Just filled his buck tag Monday. We think we want to start taxidermy as a side gig and what better practice than his own deer? We’ve caped it out, just tonight we removed the skull, removed the antlers. We rolled it how you e suggested in other videos with ears and nose tucked in. But we put it in the freezer already until we were prepared for next steps, so to clarify, once we take it out of the freezer, we need to 1) thaw 2) turn ears 3) salt bath 4) pickle 5) deflesh??? 6) pickle again 7) neutralize?? I’m confused because I thought turning ears and defleshing went together but I see your ears are already turned when you use the machine.

Just learning. Your video started with salted capes prior to putting in the pickling. Are these capes already fleshed? When and why was salt added. Was / Can the cape be fleshed and salted and put back in freezer until ready to mount. Thanks again.

What eyes are you using and do you always use the same eyes (besides size) for all your mounts? I'm new to taxidermy and plan on doing my own so your videos have been the best learning source at there. I really appreciate all that you do!

Love your channel! I’ve completed four mounts and I get a little better results each time. I’m doing a mount for a friend currently and the old buck was a fighter, ears are jacked up a bit with a few tears. Any recommendations how I can fix the ears?

Before you put the hide on the mold, what do you do with your tanned hide? Do you rub extra tanning solution off? Do you stretch it? Thanks

U may have mentioned this in other videos but after u get done tanning do u rinse it off before u freeze it and do u freeze it while it still wet thanks for all your videos they help tremendously

what fleshing machine is that? I am just getting started on learning Taxidermy. Just completed my first deer, one of the biggest struggles was getting all of that membrane off the skin. That fleshing machine is taking it right off. I need to get one.

Question: I pickled and tanned a hide. Cleaned tanning off after recommended time and froze. When I get it out to mount. Should I let it thaw and get it wet first then dry or just thaw and mount? Thanks. BTW I’m on deer 2 thanks to your videos. The first one I mounted immediately. This one I had to store for a short time.

This may be a strange question, but I’m curious if you keep your taxidermy room temperature controlled during the cold months? Not sure if it matters, or plays a role in the process. Thanks! Enjoying all your videos!

I have a question or 3 about tears in the deer ear I have. It's in the seam where the hair line is. Where the front skin meets the back skin. How would I go about fixing the tear and when is the best time to do so? Before it goes on the mount/install earliners or after and work into place the latest way? Also, I'd like to thank u for how descriptive u are and as well as giving great advise and demonstration in your videos. I'm attempting my first mount here for my son and would have been difficult if it weren't for how u show and do things. Thank u for that and also you're no doubt a heck of an artist.

Man, you made the stitching look stupid simple. I have to use pliers to hold the need because I have push so hard to get the needle through. Is my hide to thick or am I using the wrong needle. I mean it's a job getting a needle through.

I can’t seem to find the ph test strips in the 0-3 range. Didn’t see a link for it. I ended up ordering the wider range from Mackenzie’s website but if you have a link to the 0-3 please share! Thanks

The guy that does mine is done but he said it needs to dry for two weeks is that what you tell people once youre done? He also uses what looks like pool noodles stapled to the hide on the outaide to i assume help hold the hide in place?

Few questons for you. Ive been watching your videos and just wanted some clarification. 1- You cape the deer out. Do you flesh with the machine or by hand first, before salting? 2- I understand you salt and roll the hide now, rather then the salt rack. How long do you let the rolled hide sit and drain? Do you re-salt and do it a second time? Next is salt bath if needed, pickle for a few days, flesh, re-pickle, neutralize then tan right?

Great video, couple questions for you. 1. When doing floor pedestal mounts how do you go about attaching the threaded rod or square tubing insert? Also if the entire back is going to get covered in leather or whatever one wanted to do, how do you go about getting the cape right to the edge? 2. If you have a cape that is cut all the way down the back, would you recommend sewing most of the back up before putting it on the form or just see the entire back on if the form?

How much more stretch are you getting now that you can shave your capes?

Not trying too tell you your business, but it’s always wiser after tuning your flesher to start back cutting at the bottom of your cape. That way if you have it to sharp, and something goes wrong, it will be on the bottom instead of cutting a hole up on the face area, are really any where on the upper part of the hide.👍

Got a question for you sir! I’m getting into taxidermy and Wondering what your thoughts are on pressure washing fleshing. I did a few capes and It gets all the fat meat and everything off in little to no time at all. Not to mention shaves it for you practically lol… the final fleshing after pickle is practically just face. Ever done it or heard any negatives? Thanks !

Hey brother, i got a hide in the pickle right now. I used pro 1 acid. Im really sturggling to keep the ph stable. Its been in there for about 24 hours now, no hair slippage yet but i would say i have add double the dose of acid in a 5g pickle. Whats the deal? I did a 1 hour salt bath and power washed and fleshed before the pickle. Idk whats going on. Do i need to add more water and salt?
