I had a silver ds that had a broken L button. I had a blue ds that had a broken top screen. I combined them to make a silver-blue ds that now works like a dream...
wow this is complicated, I'd probably end up spending ten bucks ruining my old ds beyond repair lol.....but for fifty bucks I rather get a used nintento ds lite on amazon :\
hey man. i don't know if you still maintain your channel, but i really wanted to say thanks. your video helped a great deal; opened up my broken DS for the first time in 12 years and fixed it in one take. really appreciate it
You going to ask that other company that does this? You know, the one that doesn't exist? $55 is perfectly reasonable, especially when they've cornered the market. They could charge a lot more. Plus, $10 bucks you can do it yourself.
The hinge on my DS has probably been broken for about 15 years. I didn't even know shell kits were a thing! I'm excited to give this a shot, thank you for the thorough tutorial!
@RacieB It would be easier if you have the right tools. Like for example the Triwing screwdriver. It really helps a lot. We have it on our website. Thanks for viewing!
I am having a problem with my ds it is an original and have had the thing for years it likes to turn on and off when you try to power it on I think there might be a short in a wire but not sure were can you help?
@nintendorepair Now that you mention it, I did run into problems and ended up just buying another DS. I think I squeezed one or more of the LCD ribbons too hard when I was re-assembling it. I didn't understand how to put the small ribbons back in until after I wrestled with it. (T-T) Plus I broke the back battery cover by trying to screw it in too tight. lol Alas, such is life...
I understand what you mean, but here's a situation I could see myself in. I have a broken ds and a shell with a custom design, but I don't want to do it myself because I have failed the last two times I've done it, so I just pay the money to get it fixed the right way.
@sesaruoosama First thing to do, Check all your connections if its properly connected. If nothing happens, Both top and bottom lcd's might be the problem. It needs replacement. Please visit our website. We do have the parts that you need in order to repair your system. Just search for nintendo repair shop on google for our store.
Nintendo repair shop doesn't exist anymore. ls there any other place that sells these parts? I don't wanna use an auction site like ebay because you never know who you're buying from.
I really want to change the shell on my original DS but from what I watched on this video, it looks extremely complicated and I have no experience with doing something like this so I don't want to break my DS.
The DS is the only console that has broken so consistently for me. My original silver DS hinges broke, my DS lite stopped working entirely, and my DSi just stopped reading games. I wish the console was a lot more sturdy.
Hi, I have a phat DS with a broken hinge. It's on the top section. I'd like to replace the top section (and so replace the broken hinge), but I don't want to strip down the lower section if I can get away with it. Is it possible to replace the top section without opening the bottom section? Thanks.
Holy shit... theres a little tray that connects those 2 little ribbon cables. I was watching another video about this same thing and I didn't know about it, cause the dude didn't say anything. MMM... I now Defunct Website... Kinda the same trend with these mom and pop shops Ahh... Okay, I got it. I thought the little metal part needs to go all the way in.
Hi, i tried to change both the top screen and the shell because of a broken hinge. Now my DS doesn't start. When turning on, only the bottom screen turn on for about 2 seconds and then the whole system turns off. what could be wrong?
I reshelled my DS Phat, and when I press the power button the bottom screen flashes on for a second then the whole thing turns off. Is the system broken, or have I just connected the ribbon wires too lose?
@hfcatherine1 It can be the screen cable. Try to check if its properly seated completely inside its port on the main board. Are the screens flickering?
Will this fix the screen on the system as well? I have two of the original DS and the first one's top screen completely stopped working, everything is white, and the second one started showing everything as slightly more purple recently, which is how the first one was before it eventually broke. They both have the right hinge broken.
Hey great video i did exactly what you did but i have a problem, the screen does not open,is there any cord that i didnt put enough hard in the socket?all cords are ok and no dmg..Thank you and im waiting for your reply!
thanks cheap chinese manufacturing for turning a nice father-daughter activity into an impossible game of unscrew the chalk screws, try not to get angry and cry and reluctantly put the battery back in to find the whole thing doesn't work anymore. i'm finding it hard to get past the FIRST STEP. does anyone have a nutcracker we can borrow?
how did you do this without blowing the fuse on the system? I did everything correctly and the power went on then immediately shut off...twice. I don't wanna have to go through that trauma again
@flamesgm If your NES has broken, were you able to get it working again? We actually specialize in all kinds of Nintendo Repair products and services, and have a great kit that works to fix roughly 90-95% of all NES systems.
What if a piece of my hinge broke off? I still have the piece that broke. should I take apart the whole system to glue it back on? or should i just glue it intact?
@JonnMcNally hey there. Unfortunately I don't think anyone is still making clear cases for the original ds. However we do offer a high quality replacement case for a good price. Let us know if we can help you out.
I went to your website and couldn't find where to purchase a new hinge cover. Can you please help me with this? my color is a light blue (it was a nintendogs special edition).
I got a problem. I replaced the Touch Screen and it worked the second time but now i wont work as usual. I can press with it and it reacted but do nothing cant scroll down cant click something. The flat kabel are on the right place but I dont know why it wont work.
I dropped my DS, and the top screen is Tinted a purplish colour, and the Bottom screen is normal when in a certain position, any fixes for this? Do I need a new top screen/bottom screen? Hinge is broken too.
Here, this right here comes with the Tri Wing screw driver too. www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Original-Replacement-Shell-Housing-Red/dp/B06Y1HS9M6 Its kinda strange that they are on Amazon of all places, probably because these things sorta usually come from china, and most of the time when they are from China they're sold on eBay. Maybe its just a company selling it on amazon to look more professional? The world may never know.
Silley Doggo - those aftermarket shells are terrible and I would not recommend them. I ordered two of them and both of same had the same issue, two screw holes were incorrect, so the screws did not fit into them. Also the screw hole for the battery cover stripped. There might be some good aftermarket shells, but the particular one you linked (it comes in various colors) is really bad! Not that you’d know that.
In my opinion, the Lite's buttons/D-pad are too mushy and I despise it. I like the clicky feel of the OG's D-pad/buttons. Imo the internals from the Lite and the buttons and shell from the OG would make my dream DS 😍
I am thinking of buying a replacement shell from you guys, but I have a few questions. Does this come with a screwdriver? Does this come with replacement hinges? Are you going to restock on colors (like red)?
It doesn't come with a screwdriver or replacement hinge, however we have both of those parts on our site for under $10 combined. We can get in any color that is currently being manufactured, so if you would like red we will order a few. With this system being a little older we don't stock as much on hand as we used to.
