How to Repair Leather Damage 

If you have age related cracks (not specific single event damage) then the correct product to use is our Hide Healer first followed by our filler. Cracking you've described is typically a function the leather's deterioration. The actual leather is breaking down on you. The hide healer is used to “bridge over” the damage tying into healthy leather on either side of the crack. So, it establishes a more durable repair. It generally won’t fill the damage completely, but gives a stronger bed in the leather to support the fill material. Filler is then applied to bring the crack up to the level of the surrounding leather. If you just use the fill material, it imparts no strength by itself. Yes, you can apply the filler after you color, if the damage requires it. In your situation, we suggest that you put one coat of color down first as the color has a certain fill capacity such that if the cracking is very shallow, there MAY be no need to apply filler or Hide Healer. So one color coat, then evaluate what additional repairs are required and proceed accordingly.
