I like my knock off from direct from China factory. 100% nice full grain natural leather on all cushions. Upper, lower, front back and sides of all cushions. And it has a superior stainless steel frame.

Why didn't you show the complete repair? You skipped the color application why? This is typical of most products that do not really work. They show everything except the truth.

That’s always the goal. Though it’s not always possible. As long a the leather isn’t at the end of its useful file, it can be restored, even to a different color.

I just watched this 12 years later..... My wife and i just pulled all the cushion covers off our outdoor furniture to wash them. The whole time she was saying we'll never get these covers back on. At dinner, i said they must make a bag we could put them in and suck the down with our shop vac......( like those bags people use for packing luggage). Then i thought, how do we get the bag back out??? Then 2:35 i told her, I'm going on you tube..... boom!!! WTH. Sacrificial bag!!! Just rip it out!

The unfinished undyed underside how do we clean that.
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan 3 месяца назад
The underside of leather is suede. Suede CANNOT be cleaned with ANY liquid. Doing so risks permanently damaging the leather. Suede can be cleaned using an abrasion method following the same procedure used in cleaning Nubuck. Watch this video to learn how. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_SeuntP4hBU.html

What grit are you using?
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan 3 месяца назад
I use a variety of grits based on the delicacy of the leather and depth of the stain. I prefer to us 3M soft-back sanding pads. - The three grits i commonly use are super fine, ultra fine and micro fine. This would translate roughly to 320, 400 and 600 grit on wet/dry sandpaper.

Hi Kevin, your video was very informative and certainly answers some questions to the sagging in our sofa's. We bought Natuzzi's blue velvet sofa and two armchairs from their editions collection in 2017, fast forward to 2024 and the sofa is sagging. We really feel that we are sitting an inch or so lower than when we got it and you have to climb out of the sofa. The webbing was repaired a few years ago after it dislodged but Natuzzi and I suspect it's the webbing that has gone again. I'm not convinced there much craftsmanship in the sofa and wouldn't buy again. Thanks for the video and salutations from the UK!!

@KevinGillan

The hole left by the nail can easily be repaired with our leather repair compound, Soft Fill. However, the impression made by the rim of the nailhead in the leather will be permanent as the leather has effectively been embossed.

I have x2 black chesterfields and I want to re stuff the seating part it looks identical to this chesterfield you restored. I want to do it at home (uk) do you have any advice please
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan 7 месяцев назад
What you are attempting usually requires decent upholstery skills and the appropriate equipment. The seat deck is sewn in so you have to approach the project from the underside. That means removing the cambric dust cover and removing the spring set or whatever suspension system you have internally to access the foam core under the leather. You'll find that each of the tufting cords will have to be cut to remove the original core (foam). Next is to bring the original core to a foam supplier who will cut a foam block consistent in size with the original, then reverse the process, re-tufting and replace or re assemble the suspension system. You may have to de-tack the leather from the frame to make it easier to access the internals. THIS IS A MAJOR JOB. Good luck with it.

Can anyone help me? At 10 minutes and 38 seconds into this video when reinstalling the arm rails, the video mentions “this may take some help, because you’re stretching everything to fit…”, we have pulled and stretched, and cannot get any more of the play out of the arm rail instal. We only need a quarter inch more for the bolt to line up. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR STRETCHING AND REINSTALLING THE ARM RAIL?

Question: can you remove leather paint to go down to the pre-paint color leather? If so, can you do a tutorial for this please? I have a yellow leather Chesterfield and it is school-bus yellow... I'd like more of a pecan or caramel color. But if it's not possible to remove the paint down to the natural leather, I'm not opposed to painting. Would you suggest me just re-painting my loveseat?
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan 8 месяцев назад
You can strip the color off the leather however you'll never be able to strip it completely as there is always some color that soaked into the leather.

I have a set made by Viewpoint Leather. I don’t think they’re in business anymore. But I bought them because it has a hardwood frame glued in doweled together I think. Do you think it’s worth refurbishing reupholstering or should I just buy new? The frame has held up really well for 12 years now, but the leather is tearing, However, underneath the cushion and held up pretty well because I think it’s actually Spring supported cushions. It was definitely a high-end set when we bought it.

Hi! I just came across your video and was wondering what screws do you recommend for strap installation? My Barcelona chair is a replica, not the real deal. Thanks!
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan Год назад
Karen ... If your chair is a replica, it may not have the straps affixed with screws. More often than not, I've see them affixed with rivets. The screws on the real deal are just classic sheet metal screws with a hex head driven in by a Phillips screwdriver or a properly sized hex driver on a screw gun. The key is the screw pattern has to match what is created by the manufacturer. If riveted, then the rivies are pulled and through the work of a metal machine shop, ne resulting hole is tapped to accept a screw.

Are you using aniline dye to touch up the color?
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan Год назад
No. 3 reasons: 1. Aniline dyes have been found to be carcinogenic. 2. Dyes are translucent in nature. they lack covering power. - think staining oak (a dye) vs painting oak, (a pigment). 3. To set a dye properly so that it doesn't transfer to clothing require the environment of a tannery. If you are trying to cover a stain, a pigment based coloring agent offers much better coverage so it requires a less material and won't transfer off to clothing. Finally, most people, including most leather technicians, don't understand the distinction between a dye and a pigment. They use the words interchangeably. As in, "I'm re-dying the leather" when in fact they are using a pigment based coloring system.

Will this work on pleather?
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan Год назад
No. It works on leather because the heat allows the moisture content to vacate the leather whereas synthetics doesn’t have that same property.

So what is the best way to clean the leather of a steering wheel and do conditioners work?
@KevinGillan
@KevinGillan Год назад
The issue with a steering wheel in hand oil accumulation. To resolve surface oils, a leather cleaner with a degreasing agent is best. That is a key difference with Advanced Leather Solutions Cleaner. It’s has a degreaser incorporated. A leather conditioner will NOT resolve hand oil. In fact it will ADD oils to the leather. If the hand oil is deeply embedded then the use of Oil Extractor would be appropriate. This product pulls out the oil that is deep inside the leather.
