also, a great point to make here, is that a faulty solenoid will always be in the "CLOSED" position. at no point will a solenoid fail and remain OPEN. therefore, if your zone is not shutting off completely, most, if not all signs point to a faulty diaphragm. although you may as well replace them both while you have the valve apart. great video, BTW

I have found that when you are replacing a screw in plastic you can turn the screw in reverse very slowly and you can feel when the screw drops into the original threads rater than starting off tightening it and cutting new threads.

It would be nice if the camera was positioned so that we could see what he was referring to. At least he refers to the spring and it's function. This component weakens with time and is frequently the real cause of valves continuing to pass water when they are supposed to be closed. He is right to say replace the essential components if you can get them - the diaphragm and white ring, however, can be cleaned, as long as they show no signs of damage. Always replace the springs if you can get them!

When you say it'll even dentation on the seat can you actually show it in the video? Since this is a video format. that would be really helpful to actually see what you're talking about especially where you have the valve out and it's not in a sprinkler box and you should be able to easily show it in a video format.

The old valve doesn't have flow control right? I don't like my pressure, and I found older version installed which doesn't have flow control knob. Does it mean old valve just runs at maximum flow all the time?

Hi Justin! Thank You for your video! I have a Hunter PGV! I cleaned the exhaust port and that worked. For one cycle, the next day I go out and the valve box is full of water. I drain it and clear the port again. Same as before, it worked once and the box has water in it again! The water fills the box only when the valve is activated! HELP

Hi Justin, I am European but my thoughts are with the people in Texas that currently have more water in their garden and city as they like. I have problem with my system. One of the valves opens every 3-6 minutes for a few seconds. My gardener replaced valves but the problem is not resolved. He is frustrated because of beiing over the edge of his knowhow. I am an engineer with some but not enough knowhow on hydraulics. Do you have any clue where the problem could be?

Hi Justin - Thanks for posting, great video. One question - when repairing a valve, what position should the solenoid and the other top screw (I think you called it a bleed port) be in? I have a sprinkler system that continuously runs even when the controller box is off, and I noticed both the solenoid and bleed port can be turned tight or opened. Thanks!
@justinwilson1779
@justinwilson1779 9 лет назад
John Sturgeon Hey John. Both the solenoid and bleed screw should be completely tight turned clockwise. If the valve continues to seep through the lowest heads you've probably got debris in the valve lodged between the seat. Open her up and see what you find. Thanks for watching. JW

how would you change a diaphragm in a valve box that has debris in the valve body? I want to be able to properly flush a valve without filling the valve box full of water - valve boxes for the most part are not clean and things float around and get sucked back in. How would you properly flush a valve without filling it with water?

HI Justin. I took my 3/4 above ground Hunter anti siphon valve apart to clean it and to make sure that there wasn't any debris causing issues. My valve would NOT close and the second valve opened when the second one was supposed to start. I noticed that both valves were trying to spray water at the same time. While I had the valve open I took my compressor to clean out any debris that might be clogging the ports. I noticed that 2 very small screen fell out of the valve! I do not know where those tiny screen are supposed to be placed back into the valve! They're about the size of my nail on my pinky finger! I checked out the solenoid with a small battery and it operates correctly. Any ideas on why that valve would not close when it was programmed to close?

Justin what is that white ring called where the diaphragm sits? I replaced the solenoid and the diaphragm and I just noticed that some videos showed the ring and my SRV valve did not have that when I removed it? I’m wondering if that is what’s causing that particular zone to continue to run🤔
@TG-zq6bq
@TG-zq6bq 3 года назад
Definitely. That ring missing means the water is flowing straight from the pump to the zone

I replaced a diaphragm on my Hunter SRV 1" Valve due to the fact it was leaking. I installed a new solenoid as well. I removed the old diaphragm which was distorted with a new one and all was fine until the next morning when I woke up and the zone where I replaced the diaphragm was running wide open (all heads) with the sprinkler system shut off (unplugged). Any ideas?
@joequillun7790
@joequillun7790 3 года назад
I would guess something failed, (again) with that valve. Even tho you had the electrical portion shut off, the main water valve (I'm assuming) is loading that sprinkler valve, and allowing water past to the zone. Sorry, but you'll have to open it back up. (IMHO) Now I need to open 2 of mine, because they too are leaking. I had to a couple years ago, and didn't replace any parts. Just rinsed them off, and all worked, (for a couple seasons). Now I'll try it again.

Hey justin, thanks for the video. I have one question. I'm replacing the o ring I have the right size and everything. But the plastic screw on doesn't tight up at all. Am I missing something???. It still leaks. But I know it's not screwed on properly. Need help. Thanks.
@justinwilson1779
@justinwilson1779 5 лет назад
Hi Jay. It sounds like the solenoid is giving you trouble. Those plastic threads sure can strip out. We generally swap the whole top of the valve to prevent these types of issues. You should be able to get a new valve to gut for parts for under $20 which IMO would be your best bet. Hope that helps.

I did this and my hunter pgp head still leaks while system is off. I replaced the diaphragm twice, then replaced the top half and still leaks. Any suggestions? Oh yeah I took the sprinkler head off and water is still flowing through line.
@bobsempires
@bobsempires 4 года назад
It's easier to and cheaper to just buy a new one rather than trying to revive one that still leaks after failed repair. Also it's worth checking quality of water in water supply, rusty water likes to degrade seals lot faster than usual.
