Today I'm going to show you how to use a touch-up paint pen to repair paint damage on your Hyundai/Kia/Gensis vehicle. I've had a really annoying rock chip on my hood for the better part of 6 months now and it's been driving me crazy. I was finally able to get a paint pen in Digital Teal which is the color of my Ioniq 5.

instructions on the pen clearly say NOT to put clear coat over touch up paint but if you must to wait 6 hours. clearcoat is for light scratches where only clearcoat was affected

Agreed, the repair looks horrible. Probable more due to the product than the repairer. You'd probably have to use this product hundreds of times before you were proficient enough to make a repair that was barely noticable.

Yeah the video doesn’t do it justice because when you put on the clear coat it looks like it took the paint off and the spot looks white again.

Alitle trick l learned that i feel kind of works. Use the back of a flexible match stick to put touch-up paint down. It will fill the the scratch fairly well and is controllable

Great suggestion! The large chisel tip on the pen is too large for most of the uses anyone will need it for. They really should give it a smaller one.

@David Vega just a plain old book of matches. Not like solid wood ones but the flexible ones that come in a paper book. The sane ones you would get if you bought a pack of smokes

My Hyundai car dealer in France just said me ... "Hyundai doesn't produce yet your stick for your color (same as you) ... or at least doesn't sale it in France" 😅 So I will have to buy a compatible product, incredible

Holy smokes don't do the repair this way. Most of the base/clear pens require much more drying time before the clear is applied. I dunno, it justs looks like a slightly closer colored rock chip. Maybe you're different, but I couldn't drive a car with a chip that noticeable, even after the repair. Goo!

I considered doing PPF myself but I could never justify the cost of having it done professionally since I rarely keep my cars for more than 2 years and a few rock chips isn’t going to bring down the value of the car very much as it’s just part of owning a car. I’ve heard of people spending thousands on PPF and in my mind that’s just a waste of money

I could have used this the second month I had my car. I had some really bad rock chips last winter into spring before the roads were repaired. It would have been too much for the pen to fix but Luckily somehow Hyundai warrantied (warranted?) the paint and had the hood repainted. I think it's made of aluminum too so it won't rust. Great video! Can't wait to get my car back...been hearing word from more and more people getting their 12v systems repaired. Supposedly Software / AVN / ICCU issue is resolving. Only a matter of time now.

I have a couple smaller-than-pin-head sized dots on the front of my Elantra N next to the logo. I have no idea how they got there as I have barely even driven the car (it's 2 months old, 998 miles) and they don't look like a chip you'd see from a rock because they are literally less than 1 - 2 cms apart. They literally look like something was pressed against the car. Again, not sure when or how that would've happened. But because the car is white, underneath is black (in this case). So i have a ruined, brand new car because of it. I got a pen from Hyundai to fix it, just needed some tips because they are SO small, but to me, they may as well by Grand Canyon sized. When looking at the link, it says to input the VIN and they'll send the right color, without being given a choice of color. Was this your experience as well and they then sent you the right one? I have a matte finish (gravity gold), so I'm wondering if this exists for that.

Yes, and when you finally get to the checkout area I believe there was a spot to leave a note and I added digital teal. I'm not sure they offer the matte color touch-up pens. Don't the matte cars have some sort of extra warranty for touch-ups?

In fact, when purchasing my car and the finance guy was going through all the extra stuff they try to sell and he tried selling me the Paint Protection plan, I reminded him that this was a matte paint and he withdrew the offer for the Paint Protection plan saying it wouldn't cover it.

I've only had my white ioniq5 for a month and it already has two scratches on it. I'm not a car person so I thought I would just buy a white sharpie pen. Wonder if that is a bad idea? I guess because it scratches so easily I should just buy the Hyundai pen. e pen

Piece of advice. Do not use paint pens!!! Go online put your color coat in and find a different seller there's a bunch that come with applicators. Another thing this was a bad job you want to put layer by layer of paint until it's level with the original paint. You may have to lightly sand and polish which even the most unskilled person can do by watching RU-vid its so easy. THAT LOOKS HORRENDOUS

I just noticed that Hyundai USA now lists city/hwy/combined estimated ranges for the 2023 Ioniq 5. It shows 344/254 for the RWD, and 293/233 for the AWD model. I wish they did this in Canada as here they just list the combined range which for EV marketing I feel is incredibly misleading.
