Looks great! I had no idea about garage trim sitting 🪑 n the ground. Went and checked ours and sure enough…sitting on the ground. AND looks like the used leftover floor trim from the inside 😆 the sides don’t even match. We rented our house out a few years back and the renter “accidentally” ran their car into the garage door 🤦🏽♀️ Now I’m ready to fix it after this!!
Ok.....maybe this might help u, I see this damage on almost every older home.....be careful cutting.....usually the caulk and painting won't hurt u....unless u get it in your eyes 🙈
Hi Adam, exterior primer(be sure to prime all sides including the end cuts) and exterior paint the same way. Semi gloss works great on exterior but a lot of folks like the satin finish better...not as shinny, probably match what ever is on the rest of the exterior trim, be extremely careful on those cuts...saws can bite worse then crocodiles...thank U for the compliment!
@@johnc1280 I use an exterior primer that will stick to vinyl, then a good exterior paint, most quality paint stores can steer u in the right directions, that includes like a lowes or home depot :)
@johnc1280 I stick to the best paint they offer if I can afford it, and, a place like Sherwin Williams really knows their paints so I usually ask for advice then weigh my options, there's so many variations these days...like acrylic, enamals, and acrylic enamals:)...exterior I go bare minium satin finish so it will wash easily...usually Matt finish interior, good exterior should cost $40 a gallon normal price, home depot behr products are priced right and very good as long as u stay in the good paint price range, I appreciate ur questions...enjoy ur holiday weekend :)
I’m probably going to have to do some of this soon. You made a point about using a professional to make the horizontal cut as it is dangerous. Is this due to risk of cutting too deep and past the board needing replacement? Can you elaborate?
Hi Derek, when u run a circular saw there is always a high risk of the saw jumping back at u, the risk is even greater when cutting a board that is stationary(still attached, rigid), that's why when u cut like a 2x4 it's important one piece has room to either drop off or drop down(thats how u keep the saw from pinching), a lot of folks have been cut badly with these saws, I hope this helps explain the danger. Great video. I do have a question on your trim. The gap you are leaving between concrete and trim, what would you add to help with weatherstripping? I have a big gap, and cannot run the weatherstripping all the way to the concrete because of that. Thank you.
I'm not totally sure about the gap...wood should never lay on concrete if possible, if u were concerned about the gap under the trim piece u could buy some rubber gasket material and custom cut it...or some smaller wood trim to add to the bottom just so long the cut end is primed and painted and doesn't touch the concrete..may look like an add on if u r looking for it but most won't even notice it if painted same color as the trim
O yea...everything was primed and sealed before then being painting, I'm thinking at the conclusion of the film I still had another coat to apply on everything
Yea...to replace the boards completely would be the very best way to do it. These days the inspector hits the seller with so many things that need repairing it's wise to just repair sometimes then to replace the whole thing knowing there are many more things that need addressed...and this home owner was already strapped for cash and needing to sell...so. glass half full...half empty kind of thing. U r right to go all the way can't be worst then repairing...just cost more labor and materials. Thanks for your comments!
@@laffilmfest3759 I understand that this is ANOTHER way to do it, but I disagree. The PROPR way to do it is to replace the whole board, regardless if you are a seller or not. Teaching people the half ass way to do it, is not a good way to earn followers.
@@brendaepperson2207 Go to google and look up your local hardware store and look up the supplies. Take that amount and double it and that should be the most it costs.
Sorry u didn't approve 54inches, by home inspection rules this qualifies as completed, curb appeal is one's perception of their first impression upon arriving at the home, I'm pretty sure unless u watched this video u would never have known the repair was done, the rotted wood was removed and replaced to last. Sounds like u might be a perfectionist..nothing wrong with holding folks to the highest standards I guess...thank you for ur input!
