Perhaps the perfect repair video. No pissing around spending ten minutes explaining how to remove the wheel, just getting it done! Bravo!

I think “nuts and bolts” type videos can be just as good as complex diagnostics videos. There is always something I pick up from watching a master technician work. I’ve watched a thousand brake job videos on the South Main Auto channel lol but I seriously pick up little tips and tricks constantly. Great work as always. I dig the chill music

Eric, I am so glad to see you as a mobile mechanic. You don't have all the overhead expenses of a shop. You can keep more profit in your pocket, and eventually get a enclosed trailer to carry your compressor and other tools. Get a toyota tundra to pull it. Extremely reliable. You can look for a used one, maybe hard to find, but you can do it. You have all the knowledge and experience!

Love your vids bro. My two cents to everyone out there is this...only cause this bit me once before. New compressors “usually” come with a full system charge of oil. Sometimes that full system oil charge can be up to 8 ounces or more and the old compressor may only be holding an ounce give or take. The safest method of doing this would be to measure exactly what comes out of the old compressor, then drain the new one and put back that same amount of new oil that came out of the old one. The full system charge is great if you’ll be replacing the condenser and drier cause all you have to do is flush the evap out. Sorry for my crap grammar, not proud to say I skipped way more school than I should have.

Thanks! It was useful and I have been experiencing the same problem with my o4 Silv with same engine. Saw were the pressure switch can go out and cause the same symptoms (hot air). So I amazoned it for $8 and took about 3 mins to replace it. When I did my maint operation chec, it was cool air! So I thought I had fixed it. Pretty proud of myself. But after it being parked for a week, I started it up and went for a drive and the cold air would not come on. So, now, I'm looking to replace the condenser. Your video was helpful, in that it made me realize I have the skill, just don't have the equipment needed to discharge / charge the system. Off to the shop we go!

I work on boats for a living in Miami. My side hustle is auto ac work. During the summer in Miami (80% of the year) ac work isn’t hard to find. I have a buddy that works at a dealer who sends me work they can’t figure out or when their customers want their ac fixed but can’t afford dealer pricing. If you learn these systems inside out you can make decent money repairing them.

Just a note. When you take out an old compressor, drain the PAG oil into a graduated cylinder or beaker to measure the amount of oil, than drain all the new PAG out of the new compressor and put back in the new compressor the same amount that came out of the old compressor. The new compressor comes with a full system charge of oil so you are overloading the system with PAG.
@Rasyvnos
@Rasyvnos Год назад
Not always. Some come pre-charged with about 3 ounces of PAG, some come filled with a shipping oil that needs to be drained, some don't come pre-charged at all. It's best to check your paperwork for the compressor you purchased to see what you're working with.
@318benzo4
@318benzo4 Год назад
Right! Check the specs, all don’t come with full system amount of oil.

Wow, great video! I am not a mechanic and I am D-I-Y by necessity due to life constraints. This video is great for a couple of reasons; 1) you demonstrated that this is a big job [for me]; however, you made it look easy and tempting for me. I visited a couple of local auto repairs shops and auto parts store. I actually received honest tips from each business I visited yesterday. I received a parts list from the auto parts store for $400.00 + that included AC Compressor, Accumulator, Orifice Tube and AC Condenser. I checked my truck's repair history argh! I just wish I had confidence in finding honest mechanics.
@PappyNet01
@PappyNet01 2 года назад
@NoobsGaming1124 Thanks for the tip, but I got very lucky that I was recommended to a local shop [I thought they only did oil changes]: the Chief Mechanic (Brian) - God I am praying for his full recovery because his hands were recently badly injured while working on a customer's vehicle: Brian has performed mechanical wizardry for our vehicles that all other mechanics did not want to service. Brian repaired my truck's HVAC for maybe $80.00 - at the time of repair Brian telephoned to report that the A/C line is good, but the valves/seal were the incorrect parts; he installed the correct valves/seal then commenced the vacuum seal test; the A/C system passed the vacuum seal test; therefore no leaks - he recharged the A/C and it feels like a cool fall Virginia day in the cab while it is a hot summer Florida day. During this HVAC issue, I felt like I was having other engine problems, so I also inquired if Brian would look at the battery and alternator. Brian also reported that the alternator was bad and needed replacement. I was shocked because I had both a new battery [Interstate Warranty installed at a local garage] and alternator installed by a "Mobile Mechanic" at O'Reilly's Parking Lot in 2019. Thank God the alternator failed within the warranty window! Brian repaired/replaced the A/C System and the Alternator at Grand Total of $70.77!!!! I now have a couple of spare parts [AC Delco Part #15-33436 from GMC Dealership, that I purchased prior to visiting Brian's shop. I think my total repair cost even with the purchase of parts I didn't need was $225.00 to $250.00. I pray for Brian's full recovery! He is a honest good man!

Thanks for the video. It was very instructional and entertaining. I was going to do this job myself on my 2004 Tahoe but after watching your video I realized I don't have all the same tools you used and this would be very frustrating for me to tackle. You made it look easy but I would still struggle because I'd have to buy to rent a bunch of tools I don't have. Ultimately I'd have to see how much the mechanic will charge me to do it for me. If the mechanic quotes me an arm and leg I may decide to do it myself after all. LOL

I owned that very same air driven vacuum pump from HF some 30+ years ago when HF was catalog only. Being young and dumb, I didn't realize that my small compressor could not keep up. Chalk up yet another learning experience, but at least it did not cost very much. Actually, if I remember at the time, it was like $4-8 dollars back then.
