How to: Replace a ceiling rose / pendant light fitting - WARNING - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!

A short video showing how I replaced the defective ceiling rose in my daughter's bedroom.
This is just my thoughts on how to do it. This is not an instruction video, encouraging you to work on electerics. It's a video intended to make you aware of a few of the issues one may encounter.
Do not try this at home.
Always get a qualified electrician to undertake electricl works.

Is it possible to replace the faulty pendant only? Or do I have to purchase a whole new pendant and cord fixture?

In theory you can purchase just the cord but you’d have to know exactly what part was faulty and also, they’re so cheap to buy as a whole unit, it’s not worth the aggro to not replace the whole thing. Eg in the UK you pick the whole thing up for £1.39 in Screwfix. Please remember to subscribe for more great videos and advice.

@@essentialhandyman Thanks for the reply. It actually looks like I just need to replace the pendant, not the ceiling rose itself (i.e. i don't need to replace the rose, just need to connect the 2 wires to the new pendant). Does that make sense or would the whole rose need replacing?

@@SK-yn1fn Just a pendant repaceent is quite a common repair. It's easier than removing a rose. I'd still say use a professional though.

These new ceiling rose fittings are bloody horrendous, the brass connectors don't quite match up to the plastic cover, nightmare!!!!

I agree, they can be a real pain in the backside Shaun. If the cover doesn't want to screw on easily, back it off anticlockwise a few turns, until it clicks and settles into the correct thread. @@lyndseybell8711 Something like a jar opener might be best, to avoid breaking or damaging it. If nothing else works, turn the power off and pliars might do the trick.

@@essentialhandyman i had a cup of coffee, a few breaths & i turned the light on to heat it up a bit, got it off after that 😁
