Ha. someone commented that if you keeep the steering wheel lock not on for a few threads it will loosen the wheel enough to get it to release but will save you from accidentally overpulling. I will try that next time I do a Nissan. ahhaha. My VW and honda were super easy. Remove the bolt and the wheel slides right off.. The Nissan and Ford needed more convincing. lol
@@rayregnogarage yeah, that's exactly what I didn't do this time around. Had to go back in an re-adjust the wheel. Now I know what they meant by being careful, hey at least I didn't get a face full of steering wheel...
Hello bro, I have 2008 Nissan Xterra s and I’m looking to begging my upgrade can you recommend 3inch lifts kits for me because I love how yours look after you upgrade it.
This is what I’m running www.prgproducts.com/product-page/xterra-advanced-coilover-package-w-prg-upper-a-arms But it doesn’t look like they are supporting Xterras anymore. I’d look at Nisstec or Z1 Off-road
Are you having any trouble with that assembly? I bought an aftermarket Clockspring myself for a 2012 frontier and the steering angle sensor is not fitting into the hub of the clockspring correctly. The new clockspring hub is too big for the SAS to couple correctly. It looks like you may have had the same thing happen without noticing but I couldn't tell.
I broke the factory clock spring when I pulled the factory wheel off. My SLIP and VDC lights have been on ever since and nothing I do will reset them. I've had those lights come on before and have been able to fix it in the past, but no luck for almost a year now. I figured maybe it was because I didn't have the wheel straight when I removed it and I've had trouble since then getting the new wheel straight. Ended up replacing it with a cheap part I got on amazon. (posted another video covering this). I've been told that the slip and VDC lights will stay lit if you don't use an OEM clockspring. I will try getting an OEM at some point.. but I've put 15k miles on the truck this way with no other issues.
You mean before disassembling the airbag? Absolutely I did. Haha. But that was another day. I installed a quick release hub and steering wheel. When I came back to replace the clockspring, I wasn't worried about an airbag exploding in my face. Can't remember if I bothered disconnecting the steering wheel for this part. Probably not.
Nice video! I need to replace the clock spring, I think, because my horn and cruise control don’t work... how did you manage to change it without disconnecting the battery so the airbag accidentally doesn’t blow on your face? Asking for a friend🤣
you absolutely need to disconnect the battery before doing this. you can’t change the clock spring without taking off the wheel and you can’t take off the wheel without removing the airbag
I would work from the hub adapter and go outwards to the steering wheel. The way most horns work is that when you press the button, it basically causes the negative terminal to ground. if you take a scrap piece of wire and touch it to the negative wire on the hub adapter and touch the other end to something metal on the truck and the horn goes off, then that wire is correct. Move on to the next hub side of the quick release. Test the wire orientation there. Then check where the horn button connects to the steering wheel side of the quick release. It's easy to get those connections backwards... especially on the horn button.. cus they're not always labeled. I've done 4 of these just this year and I had to fiddle with them to get it right.
ya I noticed that. Thought maybe it was just cus I didn’t get the wheel and clockspring aligned right. But I’ve tried the reset process (turn truck off and drive straight) but it hasn’t worked. Thanks for the insight!
What was the issue that caused for you to take all that apart? I have this scratching noise when i turn left or right and the tires are turning back to straight. Sounds like there’s something stuck in there. Help!!😢
@@rayregnogarage yeah I’m pretty sure I put them all in the right locations I’ll take a look at it again but I still am just confused on why it won’t honk 🤔
great video, link to clockspring isnt on there though, am I missing it? thanks for taking the time to do this, need it done :/ $1000 for labor and parts, I said no way to fix a horn!
Ya the Amazon link doesn’t work anymore. You’ll have to look on ebay or find a dealer that stocks it. Get an OEM Nissan one and not a no name brand. My slip light won’t turn off even if I do the reset procedure (I’ve done it before) and I read somewhere that if you don’t get the Nissan one, that will happen. Mine was a cheap part and I may redo it with a genuine Nissan if I get too tired of the lights. lol
@@rayregnogarage I was just going to ask you about the cheap Chinese knockoff lol, clearly there is one making its way around for about $25, and then there is another version for about $200-300, thanks for responding
The black piece you took off too put on the new one doesnt connected on the inside. Theres two little teeth that connect on the inside of the old one but the new one it's way off. The steering angle sensor
MAYBE? Sounds like you've got a connection issue. Turning the wheel is probably making the wires connect. Can't guarantee it, but that's something I would try.
@@rayregnogarage NO that is one of the tell tale signs is the horn only works when turned all the way to lock. This is how I found out. I also have read that the ebay ones will work. The guy above must be a Nissan Tech.
Also, I'm quite certain that theft light always does that when the key isn't in the cylinder. It's done that ever since I bought the truck used 10 years ago. It stops blinking once the key is inserted. My security system is very touchy. Even if it isn't armed, it will do a triple honk if you bump anything near the sensor on the driver side if the key isn't in the ignition and turned to the first click. Its weird.
@@rayregnogarage I wouldn't think it would keep doing it with the battery disconnected but maybe there's a small keep alive battery in the theft system. Not sure why though, if it detected a theft what's it going to do? It can't blow the horn without the battery.
Do you mean for the Amazon part I used? I’m not sure. It’s not available anymore on Amazon. I’ve read that if it’s not OEM, you can’t get the VDC and Slip lights to turn off. Mine have been on ever since even after doing the reset sequence (I’ve cleared the lights before as they occasionally get stuck on). I may be getting the Genuine Nissan part sometime soon to test it.
@@rayregnogarage Just replaced mine w/ aftermarket part and made sure to leave the steering censor plugged in all lights went off. I'm pretty sure that is why people are having the vdc/slip lights not OEM issue. Hopefully it all stays that way.
@@southerndig Do you have a picture of the sensor you left plugged in? Did you replace the same part I did? If you. have a pic, please send it to me on Instagram @strongholdgarage Thanks!
Unfortunately, it's no longer available on Amazon where I ordered it. I searched and found these: www.amazon.com/s?k=Spiral+Cable+Clock+Spring+255-67ET-025+for+Versa+350Z+Xterra+Murano+Quick+Delivery&ref=nb_sb_noss Although, I would recommend ordering the factory Nissan part instead. I've hard that the slip light won't clear with a non OEM part. I havent' been able to clear mine using the normal methods (mine came on occasionally before). I'm going to try swapping in the OEM part sooner or later.
