Really, I’m no roofer but I see him lay his felt by his feet 🦶 the only tool i see is a flame 🔥 thrower. No rollers, feet or brushes on the edges feeding every thing in by hand 🤚. I’m betting he goes back to most jobs to patch a leak. I could lay felt like this like making a bed, flick the felt up and let it float down like a bed sheet, job done…next.
@chrisgodfrey1891

If your laying felt without gloves on and it's not burning your hands when touching the newly layed felt then the felt doesn't have enough heat in it. Therefore it isn't stuck properly. That's an absolute fact

@@thejoneslj a seam roller for single ply systems, yes I agree but not for torch on. I use a 4” scraper. Some use a trowel. Or some use hands. But yeh, I’d want my gloves on. I’m always hopping around after burning my hands. Bit of a thing of the past these days, torch on. Single ply is really the best way. No flames, no fires and no need for hot work public liability which costs a fortune and that most customers don’t check their contractors public liability insurance. They’re taking an enormous risk.

@@MrFlatroofer it's not the materials it's the quality of a Bauder installer, Don't matter what felt it is but all felt should be installed to Bauder standards . And this is not how you fit a flat roof . Every part of this is wrong.

Firstly learn how to put a pair of gloves and then to felt. Hope You stay safe.

You realize that the only thing holding that entire system on is the handful of staples that you put into your first layer of base right? When you were torching the next layer down I could see the lap lifting which gives your flame easy access to the dried out wood beneath it. If you want to do it with a "nail down base" , you need to nail the entire thing in a 3-2-3 pattern and nail your lap every 6". I don't see a bleed out,(minimum 1/4") which most manufacturers require in order for a warranty to be valid. I won't even touch on the lack of safety and the shorts and sneakers being worn ,you're asking for trouble there.

You wear sneakers not boots when torching

@@randyjenkins8743 tell that to the safety officers that shut you down for non CSA approved boots, I actually have 3 pairs of safety boots in my truck at all times, 1 for BUR, 1 for shingle or sloped roofs which I also use for flats and a nice clean pair with smooth soles for torching cap, if you're gonna call yourself a flat roofer, at least try to be a professional and take it seriously.

The idea of stapling/nailing is because the felt and decking move at different rates. This allows movement to stop the felt splitting. So the least number of nails the better. We use staples on a 2c torch on laid upside down. We then torch on the 3kg sanded and the 4.5kg charcoal mineral . A total of 14.5kg per sq m (32 lb). All SBS polyester. A 40 year life. As for fire, we use 18mm or 22mm T&G 8x2 Krono span. No gaps. We torch down the 3" lap of the 2c so there is no gap there as well and is then waterproof if it should rain. (Wales!!) Bleed out? We never bleed out. This was thought to be the correct way. It has been proved to be not necessary although this was well intentioned and understandable at the time. All the torchers around here between them have laid hundreds of thousands of metres of this system and no problems. Enjoy your roofing.

@@MrFlatroofer also I saw some close boarding there...in that case fixing your first layer is the correct method as you don't want flames getting under the boarding
