on my 2009 macbook air, one of the 4 screw that hold the hard drive is hidden from a clip to keep a wire in position :)

There is a Mach Xtreme Tech PATA 1.8" SSD with zif connector. Ive installed this. But I cannot see it in System Profiler, nor is it seen when I try to install the OS from a USB drive. Apart from the form factor, is there anything that Apple do to prevent me using this drive?

OK - Think I've fixed it. Although the casing etc look similar. The Zif connector on the Mach SSD is the other way around- i.e. Pin 1 of the ribbon cable is at the other end. So I had to turn the whole SSD the other way up. This in turn caused the disk to be about 2mm (1/10th") out of place which meant I had to cut away part of the rubber vibration housing. (I figure there is no vibration on an SSD so that should be OK. Problem Solved.

ok- I just took a huge risk and turned the disk over. Its now appearing. In other words the connector on this SSD is back to front, compared to the original disk. So i have to put the disk upside down. I can now use the disk utility on it to partition etc. I'll let you know if it works.

My macbook air seems to only have 3 screws holding the hd... I cannot seem to find a way to free the the corner without the screw. The part to the hd I cannot seem to free is the corner that is next to the rear next to the fan.
