How to replace a timing belt, tensioner, and water pump on a 1.8 turbo motor from a MK4 VW golf or Jetta. Great reference if you have not done this job yet.
Nice work! Straight to the point and clear instructions with important guidance on cleanliness of sealing surfaces, fitting of O-rings, use of torque settings and correct timing checking...now just to do this job in situ in a Mk1 Golf engine bay! 🤓🙏
Thanks for your question. It probably was either over tightened by the previous mechanic or someone put red Loctite on it. Heat is always the answer. Try to use a torch to heat up the area around the tensioner slowly then apply smooth torque to the fastener. If it doesn’t go the first time reheat and try again. Make sure the belt is off first. Good luck. Gary
I have uploaded a video, to get some advice on this. And it seems that the belt skipped 2 teeth. How can this actually happen? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WI6pnV6oXxY.htmlsi=mxZRzwz4WxM885sB
@@garysgarage2118I have ordered a gates made timing belt. Will do the replacement once again on the weekend. Start the engine then before mounting the motor mount back. By the way do you replace the stretch bolts too? My wife is starting to hate this pouring money car. Her comment again 100 Euro less for this wracking car. 😂
@@EduardM. VW says replace all the motor mount bolts. Because they have already been stretched you can’t use the same torque process. Just us a torque wrench and don’t exceed the maximum for that size and grade.
