I'm embarrassed, I actually thought I would need tools for this task. 80-year old lady off to store to get flapper to fix my toilet. I'm grateful for your concise instructions. Thank you.
I’m learning how to do basic fixings on my first house, and I’m glad I found this! Thanks for making this so simple and easy to understand, and thanks for being so kind as well.
I am NOT a DYI person at all! But after watching your video a few times (an pausing as I followed each step - I had to replace 3 of them in my home) it worked like a chard and I saved a few $100's on getting a plumber! Thank you so much!
The 2 dials on this particular flapper allow you to control how long your toilet will flush. The key is to get it to the optimal setting that allows the toilet to be completely flushed with only the minimum amount of water. The benefit to this is that your using less water and also your toilet runs for less time after you flush because it doesn't have to refill as much water in the tank.
@@JD0586someone correct me if wrong but I believe it would be the other way around. The size of the hole determines how quickly water enters the flapper weighing it down until it shuts again So a larger hole means a shorter time before the flapper shuts and therefore less water is used
my old flapper was not in the right height at all; so, I am going by feel trying to hone in on the best setting. I am toying with the dials on the flapper too. I work on my toilet every month, still it does not flush well. I augered 6ft. I changed the valve on the left, and the flapper. I also did try to clear the hard water deposits with acids prior to changing this hardware.
The flapper was easy to install but it sticks open intermittently. I'm not able to bend it enough or figure out why it sticks in the open position sometimes.
replacing the flapper didnt fix my problem, i notice when i turn the water off, i can still hear dripping noises, but they dont come from the toilet. sounds like its coming from the pipes.the water still goes down on the tank.
Great video! How long does it take for the tank to refill? I turned my water off to replace it and then turned it back on again, now the water is refilling really slow. I am worried.
@@weekendhomeprojects I want to say thank you so much for replying to me and I’m appreciating that! I did turn it all the way on but no water is coming out.
a fellow who does this a lot uses 2 nuts or nut and washers to slip on the chain so that the flapper has a bit of weight on it and presses it against the round ceramic lip of the opening at the tank bottom.
@DougHinVA thx,but I ended up replacing the flappers in both toilets after watching several videos. I 1st put a fishing sinker on mine,it worked for awhile.
...and he did NOT say a word what to do if the refilling goes on again because of a slow leak in the flapper that was the original problem! No word or what sort of grease or why or how to stop the tiny leaks! !
Because that's not what the video was about. The video is about how to replace an old flapper. One source of information isn't the one true way. You gotta look at multiple sources
