@@ThePlumbingGurus unfortunately it didn't work. It still continued to leak after I did it. Worse yet, my gf took a shower, then the shower got clogged, the toilet leaked immensely more, then the guest bathroom toilet leaked immensely and the guest shower had sewage water come up. It's been a nightmare today. Already had an emergency plumber come out before this situation to drain the main line thru the roof and a septic company came to drain the tank. Idk what's going on but this is a horror show.

Great Video! But, If you see a leak around the toilet and think you need a new wax ring as shown in this video, I have a suggestion for you. Before taking everything apart: Put a couple drops of red food dye into the tank water and flush. Look to see if the leak is coming from around the tank or from the bottom of the seat. Sometimes it's the seal between the tank and the seat that is causing the leak and this method will detect it. If you do find out it's that seal you'll need to watch another video on how to fix it.

The Plumbing Gurus I watched at 8pm had the replacement parts by 9pm and just finished my installation... putting tools 🛠 away now. No Leaks! Question, for just $8 there was a wax less ring there is “plunger proof” and reuseabe. What are your thoughts on that? I used the same style Everbuilt reinforced wax ring kit you used... just asking.

Just in case..... When he says "Easiest way to empty the water from the toilet is a vacuum" he means a wet-dry shop vac. Not your household vac. Otherwise use a sponge and bucket.

Thanks, I have been dreading to change out my wax seal. I had to shim my toilet after a while after having put it in. In the beginning it only moved slightly, then it got worse. Now sometimes we get a smell of the septic gas. Not Pleasant! I like how you vacuumed out the toilet, to make it a not as bad / dirty job. Just really don't like messing with that stuff. But your video was really good!

Tank should be removed from bowl, prior to removing bowl from floor/wax seal. That will make things MUCH lighter and easier to handle. Have a new tank-to-bowl seal ready for re-assembly. If you don't disconnect the tank from the bowl, you run the risk of having the tank-to-bowl seal leak when you place the entire unit back on the floor/wax seal. I would also replace the old metal supply line with a new braided flex line.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree with you. Have been doing this for 20 years and have never had to replace a tank to bowl seal. They very rarely ever go. Pulling the tank off for no reason is a waste of time. If the seal is leaking then yes replace it. But again it’s very rare that this actually happens

Thanks for this great video. Very informative for beginners. I've a leak in my unfinished basement from the pipes right under the toilet. It's a slow drip that leaks only when the toilet is flushed. Honestly first time I’ve seen so many tools being used in a toilet install, but handy use of each of them.

The Plumbing Gurus I don’t think I’ve ever used more than a small pair of channel locks for the job, unless the toilet has a carrier, but that’s a different beast entirely.

You should leave the wax ring at room temp for 5-10 min on a counter to make a better seal and goes on easier

Question how do I know what kind of wax ring to get ? Or are they kind of universal ?
