As a rule I don't sell anything on my channel. I bought my zipper pull and some other items from Sailrite. My experience with Sailrite has been good, so I will put a link to their zipper parts (I don't know how long it will work). I am also going to put a link below to a video I have on how to deal with faulty products. Paying with a credit card gives you a lot of leverage for bad/faulty products. Have a great day! Thank you! This was EXACTLY what I needed to see! A lot of other videos were trying to show me the whole zipper replacement process but this was just what I needed, thank you! (Loved the extra info about the size of zippers and they usually being a 5!) 👍👍👍
i swear this was exactly what i wanted and have been trying to learn for a long time, I didn't even know that zippers had sizes written on them till today.
Just replaced the zipper on my mom's favorite jacket for Mother's Day, she doesn't know it yet but you've totally made her day! Thanks so much for a wonderful resource!
And there it is! Thank you for taking the time to explain this repair. I have several bags and cases is good condition that I don’t want to spend the money on to replace (let alone throw away when they are perfectly fine otherwise!).
My zipper just broke. Your video was the first I found and watched after a google search. Thought I would need to do a lengthy search on this. So glad you made this awesome tutorial. You saved my sweater from going in the goodwill bag!
Thanks for the compliment. I do my best to give all of the information needed in the shortest amount of time. Sadly, it often doesn't get the video to the first page of the search list. Best wishes for the repair. I got my zipper pulls at Sailrite.
My wife found a hoody that someone had abandoned in a locker at the Lowes that she was an HR manager at. She gave it to me and I really like the thing. It gets washed a lot and the zipper finally broke. I got slightly depressed because the hoody was perfect for the Gulf Coast climate. After watching your video I noticed that a fleece vest I have at work has zippered pockets that I never zip up. I sacrificed one of the zippers on the vest and put it on the hoody. Life is good now. Your video was a huge help.
Hi Kevin, thank you for taking the time to comment. The red fleece in the video is a favorite of mine. I too was bummed when the the zipper broke. I hope you hoody has a long life.
Finding the parts is the hardest parts. I usually don't recommend any specific products or business, however, I had good luck with sailrite. www.sailrite.com/Choosing-a-Replacement-Zipper-Slider
You are welcome, Christian. The hardest part is getting the correct repair parts. I normally don't endorse companies, I got my supplies at Sailrite. Their search engine is not great, but if you poke around a bit you can find what you need. www.sailrite.com/search?keywords=zipper%20pull
I had no idea it was that easy to replace a zipper slider. The zipper to my work jacket recently broke and I was considering taking it to a tailor to get it repaired. Just saved me some money, thanks!
Thank you, it was very helpful to have not just a guide on the physical repair but info on how to find what specific pieces I needed. The zipper for a window on a Jeep canvas top broke as I was installing it, had a missing window in the car so being able to get all the pieces ordered ASAP was a big help.
Tony Vento I’m so glad I’ve found this video. I’ve kept at least two sweaters with broken zippers as I generally don’t like throwing things unless they are absolutely unsalvageable. I also make cleaning rags out of some my old clothes. While I don’t like to accumulate garbage (mostly by not accumulating space hogging purchases in the first place), I also don’t like society’s throw away mentality.
I have had a leather jacket hanging in the closet for a couple of years with a broken slide. I finally went to a local tailor shop and was told it would be $25 to replace it, thanks to this video, I did it myself for $3
Thanks so much for the helpful video. The zipper on my Columbia fleece just broke, after 14 years of use. Not a bad run. The zipper pull is still fine, but the arched piece on the back of the slider broke and that caused the zipper pull to fall off. Luckily, I found the zipper pull in the dryer. Thanks to your help, I should be able to repair it.
You are welcome, Karl. I bought my zipper replacement pull and parts at Sailrite. Recently, I have a comment with a link to their page with the zipper parts. I've bought a few things from that company and so far they have been a good business to deal with.
@@Know-How-Now Thanks to your link, I did find the zipper slider I need. But, of course, it's currently out of stock! But, no big deal. I have a backup fleece and will keep checking the Sailrite site for updates. I watched five videos on the Sailrite site and I now know far more about zippers, sliders, and top stops than I ever wanted to know or even thought was available! Given Sailrite's very reasonable prices, I should have a business doing zipper slider replacements!
Thanks for the compliment. I do my best to respect your time and make quality videos. There are over 200 how to/repair videos, organized by playlist on the Know How Now channel. If you have a few moments click on the channel name and check it out. Have great day.
going to fix my kids jacket zipper! so excited. if i return it to the store, because it's kind of new, I think they might toss it away. yay! thank you!
I do my best to make the channel a help and not a shill for products. Please consider supporting it by subscribing and checking out a few videos. Click on the channel name to do that. Unfortunately, many people game RU-vid and the some of the best quality videos don't come to the top of the search page.
If you have a U shape top stop instead of pronged, use the same type of cutters but as a wedge to spread the ends apart. Thanks for the video! Helped me a get an idea of what I was dealing with and made the task less imposing.
Thank you so much! This video is PERFECT! Simple & to the point! I'm a guy, and don't know anything about sewing! But I'm an aircraft Jet Engine Mechanic so I know about tools! Like you said finding the right zipper head is key, but now I know! Thanks for your help!
You are welcome, Bill! This is where I found the parts. Their webpage's search is not real great, so it was a little hard to find what I needed. www.sailrite.com/search?keywords=zipper%20pulls
Thank you for making a video that is to the point. Too video makers are narcissists that dont get to the point.. I learned more from your video then the last five videos I’ve watched on this subject. I’ve learned enough from your video that I don’t have to keep searching.. Thank you
Thank you for watching the video and the compliment. I do my best to keep the videos short, but informative. Social media is designed to keep you there are long as possible. The best videos don't always make it to the top of the search page.
the zipper always easy for me it's the top stop I needed to know how on my leather coat.my zipper is complete and in good shape just the top stop needed. Thank You! (:
Thumbs-UP #687 I gladly am, Tuesday evening 15 October 2019! Thank You, Thank You and Thank YOU! I had no idea this was possible! I have been looking into replacing the entire zipper on various items of clothing and stumbled upon zipper sliders on ebay. I was like “WHAT?!”. Again, Thank You!
Perfect! Succinct, refreshingly devoid of all the personal yammering in which many vloggers indulge, as if they are Oprah flipping Winfrey. Found this while looking for how to repair a zipper on a handbag. I would’ve assumed I needed to sew in a new zipper. Thanks!
I see a common thread on broken zipper pulls - Columbia jackets and vests. Mine just broke today and at least I know I can fix because the vest is a favorite.
I lost the zipper slider about a few years ago on my red White House jacket which is my spring/fall jacket, I used a keychain ring as a substitute. Now I shall try it when I found the time to buy a new zipper slider.
I can't think of anything that I think would work other than a top stop. You may be able to pry the old one off & try to reuse it. I bought my parts from this company: www.sailrite.com/search?keywords=zipper%20stops
