Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. One thing you didn't mention though was that you may need to calibrate the HVAC system. After I installed my new actuator, it was still blowing hot air. A quick google search showed the need for calibration. For my truck, 2005 Silverado 2500HD, I took these steps : 1. Turn key on(not starting) 2. Press the Auto button on the AC controls 3. Turn key off 4. Remove HVAC/ECAS 10A fuse from under the hood(not the HVAC fuse in the dash) for about a minute 5. Replace fuse, start vehicle(AC should come up with the temp at 74) and let run for a minute or two 6. Turn vehicle off for 15 seconds and then back on and test the controls Everything worked just fine after that. Thanks again! You saved me a few hundred dollars and the whole process took less than an hour to replace both the actuator and the blower motor resistor. The hardest part was getting the damn panel back on.
+Ryan Thank you for checking us out, as well as that procedure walk through. It will certainly assist other viewers ensure proper functioning. 1aauuto.com
Thank you, Ryan. I own a 2005 Yukon Denali, and just replaced the driver's side door blend actuator. Used your instructions to re-calibrate. Works perfectly now.
You guys always do a great job with these vids, but in this case, you should explain that there are 3 actuators total, in that gen Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Yukon XL/Silverado/Sierra dash. The one you replaced controls hot and cold air, the other 2 control mode and recirculating air vs fresh. Often, it's 1 of the other 2 actuators that are at issue and normally generating a flapping/tapping/clicking sound. They also have different numbers of pins in the actuator unit, so you truly have to remove yours before you can obtain the correct part number. Thankfully, many parts stores like Auto Zone now have all 3 actuators in stock, so you're not down a vehicle, waiting for a part to be shipped.
I have dual climate zone on my 2004 suburban. Is there 2 different blend door actuators? One for driver and passenger? What about rear ac? Neither side or rear blow cold. I recharged ac with freon. Front and rear blew cooler but only lasted about an hour. Does that mean blend doors are stuck or maybe a leak somewhere? I'm no mechanic, obviously. Just trying not to get screwed by one.
Heads up to anyone who does this the far left 7mm bolt is a major pain in the ass to get out, if you have a center console like I do (2004 Suburban). Took me almost an hour just to get that one out (have big hands). Helped me to get it a little loose with the ratchet and then turn the socket by hand near the end.
I have a 2004 Yukon Xl Denali. It also has the center console and indeed that screw is very difficult to get out. I won't be putting that screw back in anytime soon.
Just did this on my 2005 ls suburban. I’ve decided I’m at peace with that center retainer 7mm never going back in. What a pain. Mine had 4 bolts not three. I could see why they didn’t do 4. Lol
04 suburban LS 5.3 My driver side vents go from A/C blowing cold to hot. All my other vents in my suburban are fine. Would this be my fix or would I need to do the driver side? I’ve never had to do this. First timer here.
Two months ago the A/C in my 1997, C1500 Suburban was not blowing cold. It is near 100 degrees in Houston and I needed to take my severely disabled wife to several doctor appointments and heat makes her condition far worse. I purchased a can of Freon with a gauge on it and attempted to put Freon in the system, but the gauge never showed it was full enough. After adding a third can the compressor broke. I took it to a highly rated certified mechanic shop and $2200 dollars of OEM parts and labor later my A/C was blowing cold, but now there was a rattling/tapping type of noise coming from under the passenger side dash. A few days later it was no longer blowing cold and I took it back to the repair shop, who said they had to replace the compressor again, but now there was a very annoying rattling/tapping noise which cold be heard when the A/C was turned on. I returned my suburban to the repair shop and a couple of hours later the noise was gone, but the fresh air/recycle air vent was not working. After looking at You Tube repair videos it seems that the blend door is no longer working The repair shop said they were not under the dash at all and did nothing to cause the blend door not to work. They now want more money if they have to work on the blend door actuator but I believe they did something to disconnect it to resolve the rattling/tapping noise. Where should I look to determine if they just disconnected it, or if it is just broken. I removed the glove box door and from what I can see and feel, the blend door actuator seems to be plugged in, but is not working. Other videos on You Tube talk about re-calibrating the blend door actuator. What and where do I need to check to see if they just disconnected something, or messed with something under the hood to disconnect it? I have already spent more on the A/C that the vehicle is worth and need the money for medical, not more vehicle repairs. Thank you for any advice you can offer. God bless. James

My 2001 chevy suburban has heat coming out of all vents when ac is on, cold air will come out when ever it feels like it, does the 2001 chevy suburban 1500 5.3L have more than one & if it does could it be all of them? Thanks
What is the part the actuator bolt up to? The piece to switch from hit to cold is broke off my tahoe. I'm trying to figure out what it's called to get a new one.
I’ve done this and still only getting hot air out the front dash while the rear ceiling vents blow cold. Checked all fuses and they are good. What else could be causing the front dash to only blow hot air
My issue isn’t where the air is coming from, but the temperature of the air. It sometimes blows cold, then cool, then warm, then cold, warm, cool..etc..Which actuator would that be? Is it the one inside the dash? Or the one near the blower fan and resistor?
I need to do this on my 2004 Chevy Suburban. The process looks easy, but my problem is I have a center console, which is blocking access to that third bolt on the underdash shield (at least it's making it virtually impossible to get to). Your video doesn't show a center console, so I was wondering if you have any thoughts on how I can get this out? I'm worried I have to go through the rigmarole of removing the center console. That process requires me to remove the driver's and passenger captain chairs.
Just did mine. It is a real pain, but with a 7mm deep socket and 1/4” ratchet you’ll get it. Going back together, I lost it somewhere inside the console, but it will just have to live there. It doesn’t have much play in it with the other two installed.
It's hard to tell, but if you watch from the beginning, you do see the center console. I'm guessing this dude has tiny tiny hands cause I worked on that same bolt/screw for 25 minutes last night and didn't even get a full 3rd turn out of it. Good luck to you, as we are both gonna need it to get that sucker off.
Absolute nightmare. I started this tonight and took an hour just to get that one bolt out. I couldn’t keep the socket in the damn bolt for more than one or two swings of the ratchet. Eventually got it to where I held the socket by fingers and turned it for the bastard out. Now too late to finish the job but at least I got that out.
This may be a dumb question but are one of these on each side (driver and passenger)? I'm going to order the parts via the site you listed but am not sure if I should order 1 or 2. 2004 Chevy Tahoe
+Tara Stowbunenko Your vehicle will have a few of these actuators, and each of them perform a different function, like temperature blend, vent mode etc. We do not have a diagram that tells us where every actuator is located. 1aauto.com
+Mark Velazquez We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Question…I have a 2004 Yukon SLT so I turn the Ac on and the front vents throw hot, but the rear is throwing cold air what do you think is the problem?

This is most likely your issue. The part they replace in this video controls air temp for the dash vents. Rear temp control is elsewhere. Currently having the same issue in my 2002 Suburban, getting ready to go replace this part now.
Its same actually in the same place. Make sure you get the main ac blend actuator. Not the back. Autozone gave me the wrong piece. Also. Dont forget to calibrate the hvac system. Or it wont work.
The driver side is the mode door actuator. It controls where you want air to come out of ( floor, defrost, front vents). There's videos on RU-vid about it.
What does this fix? What was the issue? I’m asking because on my 03 Escalade , somewhat hot air comes out when in heat (84) but after a while it just blows air. And in the rear it just blows air when in high heat (82)
+eric hernandez Thanks for checking us out! This actuator will adjust how much hot/cold air will be coming out of the vents. We would not be able to diagnose the issue you are having but would recommend having this looked at by a mechanic to see what part is causing this lack of heat. 1aauto.com
Do y'all guys have a video of how to remove the blend actuator on the passenger side under the dash ! If ya do it would really help thanks! Can't figure how to remove it

Is it possible to receive a faulty actuator? I tried the relearn process on a new one, and got nothing but hot air. Replaced it with the original, did the relearn process, and worked how it used to. (Cold air, then it would blow hot randomly until I shut the truck off and back on)
Yes, it is possible to receive a defective part. If you ordered from us, please contact us directly and we can assist you with a replacement. Thank you. +imnotawasteoftime
1A Auto, my 2000 chevy silverado has heat and A/c. My AC still works good and all my controls work for the direction like for feet or face or defrost. But one day I turned to to heat and itll blow like a warm air then gets colder. You can the blend door switch to cold when I turn my knob but when I turn it to heat you cant hear it switch over. I dont know what part I need to replace or what. Any help would be appreciated!!
I need help. So I went to a shop to get my new apple car play radio installed and ever since then my ac doesn’t blow cold anymore. Just got. I bought brand new ac system and only the back blows cold ac. Can anyone help. 2003 suburban z71 with Bose. Thank you , they had to bypass the amp to the new radio for speakers to work
I own a 2000 suburban. On mine my ac gauges show perfect levels for the temp. But the ac is only blowing 72° from center vent. If I barely turn the temp knob towards heat it gets hot. Does this sound like the temp blend door actuator? The rear also only blows hot. But those are separate controls

I've got no heat and its stuck on the front vents no defrost or floor vents. The actuator on mine after doing a reset work but still only ac and I only found 2 actuators out of the 3 or 4.
+Bori_boi_ bri At this moment, the closest how-to video we have to your request is for this vehicle, which is very similar to the one you have. The steps may not be 100% the same, but should contain an adequate amount of information necessary for accomplishing this task:

I replaced my rear one on my 2001 suburban and it just moves back and forth not even a full pulse only about half way. Do I need to program it? It's a 5 pin blend door actuator.
Turn on truck turn it to Auto turn truck off take out the fuse for it in the engine compartment wait 2 minutes turning on should say 70 some odd degrees let it run for 2 minutes turn it off turn it back on
I have a 2002 Chevy Suburban, 6 months a go, I heard lots of clicking down by the floor. I removed the Blend door actuator, opened it up and found one of the gears cracked. I replaced it and still have cold air! OMG....Really?
+Salud Tapia We currently do not carry the small pin. We do carry the replacement actuator that is shown in this video. Here is a link to them on our website. goo.gl/UMH7Qr
