If you have time to remove the covers and the lower radiator hose, that's fine. But honestly, I think if you are just draining and refilling, all you need to do is drain the radiator and coolant reservoir. No need to take off the covers. If you look at 0:57 there is a special hole there designed just for this purpose. I don't think the extra coolant from the lower radiator hose will make a difference because there will always be residual coolant in the block.
@jgehbinv
@jgehbinv Год назад
Loosening the drain plug can be easily done from above without having to get under the car and take off the two undercarriage covers. I easily removed the coolant reservoir and then was able to get my hand down to where the plug was and loosen it with my hand, followed by tightening it with my hand once all the fluid had been drained.

This is the way. Saw another video about reaching down the back of the radiator to turn the valve but my arms are too big! Except be sure to use pink/red Asian coolant since you are not doing a full flush. You should use pink/red Asian coolant anyway. If your coolant color is anything other than pink/red, you should flush instead, so you can make sure the wrong stuff is completely gone from the engine. Also a drain and fill is fine, no need for a flush unless your coolant is in absolutely terrible shape or the wrong color. It's why Toyota says 100k then every 50k thereafter. If you actually did a flush at 100k then you probably could wait another 100k for the next service. But DIY drain and fill is so cheap to do it makes more sense dollar wise. Finally, keep any eye on your temp gauge for a day or so after this just in case it didn't burp enough air. It only took about 20 minutes with the heater on full blast to get the air out for me. Normal full temp should be about 1/3 or so up the temp gauge, but shouldn't reach 1/2 or more.

If you are just swapping out coolant then you do not have to worry about that. We currently do not offer the coolant filler tool that we showcase in the video, but that is something that is sold at many auto part stores.

I feel there are actually a lot of things that are left out in this video doesn't show how to flush which is important for a full coolant change or mention to check your hoses or how to fully drain the cooling system like the block but I guess if you don't mind mixing different products it's fine unless it's not your first time and just know what coolant is already in there I don't know just feel like a lot is left out

I think it makes more sense if your changing the fluid to drain all of it including the block then flush and see what you get out of it I feel like if you don't drain the block or turn the heater on to flush the heater core at the same time then your mixing products also if it was clogged I wouldn't think you could just flush it all out with just water there are other chemicals for the flush process but what do I know I'm just a kid who just read it in a haynes repair manual which I recommend to anyone mechanic or not, experience or no experience

Nicely done. Two comments/questions: 1. I was under the impression that Toyota red coolant was required in these cars. Can anyone comment? 2. Is it possible to avoid shield removal and instead insert a short 5/16" hose onto the petcock outlet from below and then loosen the petcock from above?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 4 года назад
+Cayman West Thanks for watching! As long as you can access both the petcock and lower hose to drain all the coolant then you can certainly do that! You can also use any coolant that is formulated for your engine. You do not necessarily have to use Toyota approved coolant only. Just check the bottle to see if it will be okay to use on your vehicle!
