No mention about drain some brake fluid out of the reservoir. When compressing the pistons it is likely to force fluid back in to the reservoir causing it to overflow...........just to be on the safe side.

This happened to me, is there anything wrong with this happening?
@dan_gerous13
@dan_gerous13 5 лет назад
The brake fluid usually gets lower because the piston travels further when theyre worn, when the piston gets compressed it should be back at the full level. If you take some out now youre under the correct amount and when they wear its going to be lower than normal

What’s the point in taking the TQ-55 bolts out? Just an extra hassle, especially if they’re done at a shop. Good look getting them off. You can get to the pads just removing the 2 18mm bolts and change them that way
@cl1194
@cl1194 2 года назад
Your videos are my first stop! Getting ready to do my brakes and keep seeing pads with and without "hardware" (which look like clips of some sort). Your video just shows replacing the pads. Do I need to replace hardware at the same time? Does this complicate the process (i.e. involving brake lines/fluid, bleeding) or is it just a matter of removing old hardware and installing new?

Shouldn't you take some of the brake fluid out of the reservoir prior to pushing the caliper piston back into the caliper?
@arturo7926

Ok, I really need to know exactly what he did at 2:48. Did he just squeeze the caliper with the c clamp? What was that popping noise?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 7 лет назад
+Arturo M Not sure exactly what the popping was, may have just been the clamp slipping. But yes, all he does is push the piston in using the C-Clamp. This is a very common method for getting those pistons back into their bores. For anyone else who might be doing this job, we carry the parts shown in the video on our website. Order from us and we'll cover the shipping. Here's a link: www.1aauto.com/brake-pads/i/1abps00080?RU-vid&CTA%20Comment&ATony

i just did mine tonight on a 2003 tahoe. same problem. i managed to get the passenger side brakes changed but not the driver. i used a breaker bar and exerted enough force to twist the metal of the torque bit! but to break the other side's caliper bolts i sprayed it with wd40 and used the breaker bar with a pipe to use as an extender and torque (twisting force) gainer.

Use PB Blaster Spray let it soak on heads of Torx Bolt a few mins then make sure you have 1/2 inch drive T55 Bit and 1/2 inch drive Ratchet For added size and strength compared to standard 3/8" this should make a huge difference and help the stubborn rusty torx bolts come free! Be sure to spray brake cleaner and use lithium grease when reinstalling the bolts on caliper.

The instructions show these need to be torqued to 120 and then 90: STEP 3: INSTALL NEW ROTOR AND PADS (7:45) Clean new rotor with brake cleaner. Clean hub with a wire brush. Use a little anti-seize to keep the rotor from seizing to the hub. Insert your new pads into the brackets. Put your caliper bracket back on, and tighten the bolts to 120 ft lbs. Compress the caliper piston with a c-clamp and block of wood to reset the pistons. Mount the caliper on the bracket and torque the bolts in to 90 ft lbs. Use a little anti-seize to keep the rotor from seizing to the hub. STEP 4: PUT WHEEL BACK ON (12:50) Use a little anti-seize to keep the wheel from seizing to the rotor. Make sure to use a star pattern when putting your wheel lugs back on. Tighten to 120 ft lbs. Replace hubcap/center cap. +NorthStar371
