If you follow our video you should be fine. You can take the cap off of the brake fluid resivoir if you want to, it won't hurt anything.

Thanks for a clear and informative video! I replaced my front pads and rotors on my 2001 Passat a couple of weekends ago following your instructions, and it was both a great project, and I felt like I knew what I was doing every step of the way.

As long as the pad has the wear sensor if you vehicle is equipped with one, you can really use any brake pads. Some are better than most but if performance is not an issue, any will do.

Thanks for this video Mike. This helped me out with my MKV (2005) Jetta 2.5. I don't have the repair manual but these cars are not as hard to work on as other people may believe. I know other VW owners who just take it to a mechanic for everything. I always do my own oil changes but for any major repair or maintenance I would take it to a shop. I know a really good mechanic in Washington county, Pennsylvania. It is a bit of a drive for me but he is reasonable and my Uncle lives close tohim

The rear caliper's pistons has to be turned while compressing it back in, that's the only difference. That is quite hard to do without the proper tool, but it can be done with a cheap tool that is a cube with dimples on each side, one of these sides the dimples are gonna line up with the holes into the piston, then you use a ratchet wrench to turn it in. You have to screw it in clockwise direction, same as screwing a bolt.

We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to change the brakes on the rear of a 98-01 VW Passat. If you have a Chiltons or a Haynes manual, the repair should be covered in them.

Nice tutorial. The passat b5.5 has the same remove/install process. I might need to buy new clips, they were hard to pry out and a ***** to put back.

I was informed that my caliper pins are 7mm on an 05 Passat but can I still use a t45? I’ve heard this is done for these as the t45 is common part and fits in right

You may want to check the backside of the caliper to see if anything else is holding it on.

If I remember right the right bit for removing the caliper is a 7 mm Allen head unless they are not original I know the Jetta Golf and Beetle is a 7 mm if you look at 2.52 it dosen't look like a torx but a chewed up Allen head

Do you recommend any specific type of brake pad for a 2001 VW Passat? or will any work? I am asking because a sensor said to check brake pads. I used your video on replacing the window regulator to fix my driver side door. These videos are very helpful for people with no mechanic history

You may want to check all of the steering and suspension components to see if anything is worn and may need to be replaced. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Sweet! 2002 Passat uses a 7mm for those slider bolts. You're video is great. I removed those bolts but it still did not come off. It was lose. Anything else I need to do?

You may want to check some of the bushings to see if they are dried out.

Hallo Jose I got exactly same problem on my B5 estate and let me tell you its pure nightmare . . . i went to see mechanics, BUT nobody know, i couldnt believe!! I spot, that outside pad is loose and that making bloody noise. When new pads installed noise disappear. Good luck

I think that the correct torque on the hub bolts ( lug nuts ) is 89 foot pounds, not 100

i have the Lucas brakes, which is a little different, this one is the ATE brakes :)

I have a 2000 passat b5 and the check brake pads lights is on. I am sure its the brake pads and/or rotors as the front brakes sound rough when I apply the brakes (although they do not squeal yet). My question is How critical is it to use a torque wrench as compared to tightening the bolts using your own judgment with a regular socket wrench?

i have the abs and brake lights on, they ask for 110$ for a diagnostic to tell me the problem, i assume its because of the pads and rotter which i havent changed in the last 45k miles, do u think i might be right? do the low pads cause abs and brake light on?
