I note that the new control arm cam with new nuts for the Ball Joints section. However, I wish to know (because you video does not show) whether you used the old original bolts to install the new control arm sections? In other words is it okay to reuse the old bolts or must one order new bolts. (I assume that if the bolts are not deemed one time use, then it should be okay to reuse the bolts unless they are damaged)

I need to do this job too but opposite side bolt seems too go into transmission

Stretch bolts (as well as locknuts) should always be replaced not reused (but if no choice use thread-lock); full weight should be on wheels in normal ground position before final tightening; subframe locating pins (e.g T10096) should be used (then re-alignment should not be necessary)?

I believe this only works for manual transmissions. On mine, the inner bolts are blocked by the transmission and oil pan. Have to lift engine or lower subframe.

I used my floor Jack with 2 blocks of wood and un did the trans mount for the passenger side and then when I did the drivers side I un did the motor mount.

Your reusing stretch bolts torque wrench and specific torque settings is futile.

I have a golf r with cast iron, and I'm having trouble lining up the 3 bolt aluminum bushing. I was able to force it in but felt like it was stripping... It was in an accident

How do you perform this job on the drivers side when you have a DSG automatic transmission?

I'm stuck with this too! Not enough space for the socket. I read somewhere about removing gearbox dog-bone bolt to allow some movement, but it's not helped.

You have to Jack up the transmission side to remove the front bolt
@bmorlok84
@bmorlok84 2 года назад
Easiest way I've found, support the trans, undo the trans mount, raise it the amount needed to remove bolt..

i noticed that the one you have on the video is a stamped steel version, what's the difference between the cast iron version?? Is it stronger than cast iron??

@mohammedkarim454
@mohammedkarim454 3 года назад
yea i saw this and realize this it too easy and forgot about the transmission, I saw a video where the transmission oil pan is blocking a bolt entirely, a vid showed that you can unlink the transmission from the frame to pry the transmission forward just enough to unbolt it. Granted I need to do more research

If I’m not mistaken he did the transmission side in the video. You can see the trans drain plug. So I’m confused the engine side is harder?
@thecrittergitter7576

@@austincrooks7385 driver side is easy with a manual shift. Passenger side is another Story... going in now. Wish me luck. I used a jack to lift and position the other control arm in place rather muscling it. Then torqued to specs.

I have an '06 VW GTI that needs two lower control arms with ball joints assembly. Is this control arm installation video what I would need for the first part of the assembly, or is the control arm in the video different from a lower control arm?

+jose96397 We recommend soaking the bolts in some PB blaster or if that doesn't work, give them a little heat so they come out easier. Thanks for watching.

16 Nm is like using your fingers to tighten the bolts. It's 60 Nm with steel casting control arm and 100 Nm if you have sheet metal version of the control arm (as the older one here)

They replaced it to give a reason to make a video, normally a control arm would need replaced when the rubber bushings are worn/torn/too loose
