he mentioned the new lower ball joint had a snap ring included with it, yet never showed installing the snap ring. I would doubt that vehicle used a snap ring since I have owned several and all replacement ball joints have always included a snap ring yet you can not install it as ball joint is not tall enough on most of those vehicles. and since they didnt show it being installed I am guessing I am right, but it should have been mentioned, or shown installed if I am wrong, leaving out parts can be confusing to people, even if it seems basic to others.

READ THIS FIRST!!! Cory Gurney is right! I followed this video step by step and it led me into a trap! 1aauto said to install the top first, then the bottom and you cant with the tools they have here. watch it closely at 12:48, the lower ball joint needs another couple millemeters to go to be pressed in all the way, and then the video edits it out, and its magically pressed all the way in. I spent an hour of back breaking, Knuckle busting, swearing session trying to use all different types of spare junk around my shop to make it press in the last bit, and it kept popping off with all the pressure. Finally I went inside and watched some other videos and read cory's comment on here and it became clear, 1aauto was doing it wrong, and edited out that part of the video showing them do some funky stuff. they knew they messed up and just didnt want to edit there video the right way, shotty work 1aauto, fix this video! The correct way to install is the bottom one first, watch other videos online, its easy to see.

Just had to call it a night because I couldn't get that last few millimeters in on the bottom. Watched more videos and realized what you point out is exactly correct. Bottom one needs to go in first. What did you do to get the bottom one completely in?
@tkorn43
@tkorn43 2 года назад
No, you can/should install the top one first... You should just use a cup on the top side of the lower ball joint when installing, not just the bare tool on the knuckle. Most ball joint presses you'd rent from an auto parts stores have those cups.

This video was incredibly helpful. I didn't disconnect my tierod, just supported the knuckle after I took it off. I was pretty intimidated but this video gave me confidence. After 280000 miles, my stock ones were shot. I recommend replacing axle ujoints and wheel bearing assembly as well. If you're already in there, assemble with new goodies. My big socket for the axle nut was too big to fit through the hole in my rim. I read other people saying they had trouble with the axle spinning. Just put it in 4wd and it stays put.

Would like to add... if you have fluid leaking when the axle is removed you have a bad inner seal. The "outter seal" isn't truely a seal, it rarely is touching the axle housing to keep anything out/in anyways. Inner seals involve removing your gearing but are 100% worth it if you drive in a lot of wet weather, or go offroading in mud/water. Also clean the axle thoroughly before re-installing or you're just going to be putting all that dirt and rust into the differential housing.

Brilliant video. Not a criticism, just a helpful attempt to clear up confusion for those following along, narrator said "38 mm" at the very end when reinstalling the axle nut when he meant 36 mm. I'm sure he just misspoke since when he loosened it at the beginning he said 36 mm for the same bolt (and it is 36 mm). As another commenter noted, you'll also need a 28 mm socket which is not listed at the beginning.

My only complaint when he's torquing some of the bolts/nuts he gets to his torque then you see him push it further, not recheck torque but full on going passed torque 13:55 is a prime example. I might be seeing it wrong or the audio isn't synced properly but it's showing him get the click then push further then another click when he releases. So pretty sure he over torqued at least 3 or 4 bolts/nuts...

Don’t forget to grease the lower , then remove the fitting and install the low-profile plug . ( or the axle joint will wipe it out …) AND , install the snap ring before installing the axle shaft !
@nikburisson9-pissedoffpeasant-
I was hoping he would explain if the axle pulls itself in to the hub. At the beginning you just tap it out of the hub. Does the axle shaft pull itself into the hub when you tighten the 36 mm wheel nut?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 6 лет назад
Yes the bearing needs to be torqued with the 36 mm axle nut, so the axle is essentially holding the hub and bearing to the vehicle. 1aauto.com

That is not true the are three bolts that hold the hub to the knuckle. The axle does not hold the hub on. The axle but is so it can hold the axle in position

step #1 turn heat on in garage, get car on your lift and set it to desired height. step #2 remember you dont have a garage and pay someone to do this nasty ass job. step #3 find the guy that said "oh, you need upper ball joints" and smack him in the head.
