Thought I'd whip up a How To video. I tried to make it as short as possible, but it's still 6:30 long haha. Just thought I'd help some people out that are not quite sure how to change the fuel pump.
Thanks for watching! :)

I followed this video and it helped immensely! Just wanted to note that his car seems to be an EK (96 - 00) and one difference these cars have versus the 92 - 95 is that one of the hoses going to the pump has a 17mm banjo bolt (instead of the hose with the white retaining clip). You need to make sure that when reattaching this bolt, you need to supply two new 12mm copper crush washers and that you torque the 17mm banjo bolt to spec or it will leak!

Think that's my issue. I have a 94 Civic I recently had the pump replaced on but it's still leaking. I'm pulling it tomorrow myself to check it its install (if it was installed properly, which is why I'm here now lol)

Great video Many thanks "Nikko Salgado ". Just one thing - is the fuel system under pressure where gas will spray out when I loosen the hoses etc? or when the car is shutoff, all pressure is gone so following steps as per your video is safe & no issue with regards to pressure. Thanks again.

Thank you, I've already changed the fuel filter ('94 Honda civic); that took me an hour, this will probably take my fat ass all day.
@johnwebster7984

I decided to change my fuel filter in the rain today about 2 hours before dark. I dropped the banjo bolt into the engine bay behind my battery and had to fish it out with a magnet, When I had finally taken the old filter out and was going to replace the second one, the bag that had the crush washers blew 30 feet away and I was like, "welp, I guess that's that." When I caught the bag I found no washers inside it. I was lucky enough to discover both washers in the same spot right beside my car. (lucky AF). Then proceeded to put everything back together at dark. Used my flashlight to check for leaks after I primed it a few times. Engine bay was dry but I was soaked.

@@johnwebster7984 Sorry for the aggravation; however, I would do it yearly, gas is so damn dirty. I had a 1.8 '94 Corolla and I also became obsessed with changing the oil, that car died on me at 500 Hundred thousand miles. What I did hate about the Toyota fuel filter wasn't just the fact that I had to remove the driver's side wheel to access it, but the filter had six bolts, the Top were 17mm, Middle Sides 10mm, Bottoms 14mms, would it hurt to make all six of them the same size, I mean damn! This is my first Honda, but I'll take Toyota/Lexus over Honda/Accura all day, every day!
@johnwebster7984
@johnwebster7984 3 года назад
@@alexsamuel5084 No doubt, I'm daily driving an auto 99 civic 1.6l but I'd give it up in a second to have my Manual 87 2.0L camry back. I'd like to mod out a civic cause they're cheap but I'll be modding a supra when I have the coin to justify it. Maybe even an MR2. The wrenching is fairly easy on hondas most of the time. My 97 manual accord had a terrible fuel filter location aswell but I did love that car. That 2.2L is decent.
@alexsamuel5084
@alexsamuel5084 3 года назад
@@johnwebster7984 The first time I put the fuel pump in my 94 Civic, I put it in backyards or incorrect some how. My 1.8 Corolla, my only other aggravation was I had to change the motor mounts, etc quite often and they're not cheap; however, I was doing 800 miles every two weeks, working and going to school, and I never did get my physical therapy degree, now I wish I had.

I have a issue with a 95 . It will start and run nicely. When I park it for a while 10 min maybe, I'll come back and it won't start. It will turn over with no issues but will not fire up. Thought it was the relay so replaced that. Still happens. Once it sits for 20 min it will start up fine. Could it be the pump?

The locking clip won't connect. I see you started with pliers then finish off with screw driver. tried it out.. can't lock it in. do I need to deform/bend the locking clip with pliers as I apply? denso directions say inner prongs face away from the fuel pump. i tried both.. and i can't get the denso to lock in. what if I skipped it? worse case scenario?
@NikkoSalgado
@NikkoSalgado Год назад
did you get it to work? might just spew fuel
@reyarqueza7627
@reyarqueza7627 Год назад
@@NikkoSalgado yes, it took a couple of tries and pain and hours of trying different things. I eventually deformed the locking clip to be the same shape as the OEM one, with a tiny amount of the chrome plating of the locking clip chipping off. Not sure why denso would chrome plate a locking clip, but it's particles could gradually get into the gas tank. Yea it's silly we are talking micro sized chrome dust particles. You never know right? Denso...sigh. Also I fear in time it could eventually pop out say for example if I run over a pot hole. Anyway the car seems fine now. I realized I replaced a 20 year old fuel pump that was working fine. Turned out it was the Main relay that needed replacement. I replaced an OEM fuel pump with an aftermarket and didn't need to. Argh.
