2004 PT - only one key with it which comes out of ignition at all positions. Just have to be careful that ignition is in off position when cutting off so as not to drain battery. Looks simple enough to replace ignition and no problem using new ignition key. Can use old key for doors. Never had electronic key but when I asked dealer, they wanted big bucks to re-code new key. Do you think I will have issues with the car starting and running?
video is fantastic but i need more help as i took out my entire ignition barrel steering lock ect as the inner connection broke i taped my key to immobiliser muduel but car wont reconise my key now my red dot light wont go out
Would this work for a Chrysler Sebring convertible 2000? I have 2 sebrings, one runs, one doesn’t. Go figure I lose the key to the one that runs. I have the key and ignition for the car that doesn’t run and I want to put the
I replaced the ignition cyclinder (which was a cinch thanks to the video!) but then the little red light on the dash would flash, the car started and died and then wouldn't start at all (lights, radio all work but wouldn't turn over and lights didn't dim when key cranked) I put the old cylinder back in and it started right up. Tried again and same thing, any ideas? Thanks!
Yep, i have talked with some of them and from what i heard, it's better to make new keys from existing locks. They can do that, if the door and trunk locks are working correctly. It's not very cheap but it's better than one day just trying to enter the car and see that battery is dead. I have watched some videos here on YT and some recommended to lubricate the door lock cylinders a lot, first with WD40 and then with some grease. I don't know, maybe my ignition key will fit and opens the doors.
Great video! Thanks. I have an '01 PT Cruiser with a locked ignition. When I put the key in the cylinder, the key will NOT move at all. So I can't turn the key to the Run position. Can I still remove the cylinder myself, or is it time to use a trained professional?
You may want to try to giggle the key up and down to see if you can get it to move forward. You would need to get it to turn in order to remove it. We carry the ignition shown in the video on our website with FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states. 1A Auto Parts Hey, thanks for responding so quickly. Your suggestion worked!! I was able to start the car - a number of times - with no problems. Great customer service!! Thank you!!
retort63 Still might want to order a set of tumblers before it breaks for good since that sounds like the tumblers are almost worn out. I'm stuck in the situation where I'll probably have to get an (worn-out - from same year) ignition switch assembly and fit it with our key's code until we afford the better solution of buying another cylinder+tumbler set. The key does the no resistance thing where it 'just turns', a sign of it no longer being connected to the part that sends a pulse to the starter relay. From what I've read, it's not as simple as reconnecting the actuator's pin. You need a new part to fix it. ;( I don't know about everyone else watching this video, but it's occurred to me to write the freaking set of tumbler numbers down on the sales receipt/title or something!
I recently had to buy two keys for my 05 Pt to the tune of $150. a few months later and the ignition cylinder has become loose while in the on/run position. It runs and does all its supposed to but I know it's going to fail at an inopportune time. My question is does replacing the cylinder require electronic reprogramming of the chip? I'm thinking not but would like to verify that as it otherwise seems an easy and actually entertaining task.
i have a 99 chrysler 300 but my key wont turn at all due to someone trying to steal it...my question is can u remove the ignition lock cylinder without it in the run position
question ? did you buy all new tumbler blades or use the ones from the new switch and match the numbers with the order of the old tumbler blades ? couldn't you just replace the tumbler blades ? can you buy just the blades ? did you purchase just the switch or the switch and assorted numbered blades ? i have to do my 98 sebring and i don't want to make return runs to the parts store or order on line several times and wait for parts i might need.
+BENNIEDARRELL Thanks for watching! The tumbler blades come with the new part shown in this vidoe, and we recommend that you replace the cylinder along with new tumblers. You will want to match up the order of the new ones with the old ones! www.1aauto.com/1A/IgnitionKeyLockCylinder/Chrysler/PTCruiser/1AIMX00146?RU-vid&CTA+Comment&O57vFndz8Hw
will do, thank you so much. i gotta replace the 98 2.5 sebring convertible;s motor mount inserts and it will pass inspection. i have till the 26th of august with my temp tags. they didn't notice the ignition but i still have to replace it. if it's not turned off correctly the battery will die.
My 98 Chrysler minivan has issues starting. The key only starts the engine when inserted in the lock cylinder on one side. The other side I can turn the key, but the engine does not start. Does that sound like a bad lock cylinder or bad ignition switch?
Hi - My key will not turn to the "RUN" position as it shows in the Haynes manual. So I need to somehow by pass this step and still pop it out. I do not even have the cash until I am able to drive over weekend to replace, but am hoping to pop it out anyways....do you know of a workaround when the key won't turn ???? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the key had a fob inside of the key and if you have an alarm system it could disable the car if you got the wrong fob inserted into ignition. Is this wrong information?
I do not have the original keys they were stolen. the key -new- one turns car over but don't make a sound and lights just flash also have not taken tumblers out what do do from here? have a 2002 utility pt cruser
Hello. Is it possible to take the door / trunk lock cylinders apart like the ignition lock cylinder? And modify the "pins" or whatever they are called, inside lock cylinder to match specific key? I just have 1 key for my car and that's the ignition. I know there are companies that allow to make keys just from existing locks. But maybe it's possible to modify cylinders for specific key? I have central locking system also, if that matters.
+guamguy1983 Thank you for checking us out. In most cases, a faulty ignition lock cylinder will restrict you from removing the key, or not starting the vehicle. If it is stuck in the position you are referring to, it is possible that the cylinder has a failure, or a interlock solenoid may be faulty. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts I was able to get it to start. I began to hit the ignition lock cylinder and then it moved freely again. would you suggest changing it anyways?
@@guamguy1983 this is what I do a on a regular basis😂. When I put the key in it won't turn as if it's locked in connection with the steering wheel. I keep a pair of vice grips just to hit the ignition because that's the only thing that allows me to freely turn the damn key
You would need to get the key to turn forward on order to remove the ignition. You could try to jiggle the key up and down as you try to turn it forward. Sometimes that will help. You could also try a little WD-40 in it to see if that helps to free it up so that you can remove it. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan with the cylinder switch stuck. I removed the steering column and had to hit on the cylinder housing to get the key to turn. So i bought a key cylinder and replaced it, when i tried to start the van it started ran for a second are two thin it stopped. I tried two more times again it started and stopped, when i tried a forth time it would not crank at all. So i took the old key cylinder apart and the new one apart and recoded it to the old key and it did the same thing. Can anyone tell me what is the problem.
You may want to check to see if there's a frayed wire on the ignition, and that all of the connections are okay. If there's a check engine light on, you should have the code pulled. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
We do carry a new ignition on our website for your 05 Chrysler 300, here's a link to them and also a video that should help you out. www.1aauto.com/ignition-lock-cylinder-with-key/i/1aimx00146?f=504850&y=2005?RU-vid&VideoReply&ATony
