Description
The ignition lock cylinder is the cylindrical and mechanical part used to start your car. Housed inside the electrical component that locks the ignition known as the ignition switch. It's often welded onto the steering column and is usually located on the right side, behind the steering wheel
An ignition switch, starter switch or start switch is a switch in the control system of a motor vehicle that activates the main electrical systems for the vehicle, including "accessories" (radio, power windows, etc.).

Thank you for your video… It was very well done, and it gave me what I needed to do to finish the job. The only thing that was missing was how to remove the cylinder from the housing in which that’s all I needed to do without removing the steering wheel on, etc. Your video gave me what I need to finish the job and I really appreciate it. I did the job without knowing anything about it. without having to remove any of that, the steering wheel etc etc. I only removed the parts that had to be replaced. and everything turned out great. as if nothing had ever happened. Maybe everyone has their own ways or ideas to solve problems. Greetings and thanks for the video.

Yeah ive never done one of these before but have done several other steering lock issues on vehicles for customers and the amount of stripping that is done here was completely unnecessary. I have one of these to do on Friday definitely won't be stripping it out this much😂

Good job. I need to replace the shroud on my 2011 optima. I got hit before they came out with the SW logic upgrade. Still need to go get it done.

Depends, in this repair we’re looking at around $3000 including labor, parts replaced including clock spring, multi function switch, lower steering shroud and ignition lock cylinder assembly. if you’re just replacing ignition lock cylinder assembly you only have to remove the upper and lower shroud then you can access the lock cylinder assembly. Do kia cars in the us not have a immobiliser chips in the keys? Wouldnt work in the uk this method.

The base model don’t have immobilizer but I believe since this accident happened kia released all newer model with standard immobilizer package. Thanks for watching.

Great video. Im working on replacing ignition lock on 2019 Kia soul+. Got Keys cut out at dealership and smart key programed to the vehicle so it remotely opens and closes the car. My problem is on tour video im seeing a pin sticking out from ignition lock housing the one that you stick usb into to turn. That piece is missing on mine. Ive tried replicating it, but it still wont start. Does dealer sell that piece separate i cant find it anywhere on internet….

Our catalog shows it one piece, you have to replace the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly to fix your concern. Thanks for watching.

anyone doing this job. Prior to installing the new switch. Have it rekeyed to match the original key. If you don’t know how to do it. Take it to a locksmith. If you lose your keys down the road and need keys made. This will save you a lot of time and money having everything set back to factory settings

How does one do without key and adding a push button. How does the locking of steering wheel work if you want to switch to push button without steering locking up in you while driving?

Would I have to replace the turn signal indicator and whiper switch as well? Like are they code locked to the new key?

if you noticed I replaced a lot off parts here because they were broken but most of the time the lower shroud and ignition cylinder are the most common replaced, take it to your nearest dealership and have them to install ignition cylinder protector. good luck.

I replaced the shifter tube in my 05 f250 and now the cluster lights are flashing and battery seems dead. I think it may be the lock cylinder. Any ideas

I replaced engine on F150 couple of years ago everything was good except every after few minutes my dome/cluster light are flashing, I removed all relay/fuse involved on circuit still does the same thing, I accidentally dropped my socket on engine compartment underneath the 12 volt battery tray, gotta remove the battery to get my socket back, then I ended up cleaning the battery post somehow concern go away. clean your battery post then let see what happens.

They didn’t try to use a USB cable to start the car, they use the USB cable to turn the actuator and nothing more and only because the USB port fits right on top of the actuator and gives your fingers enough space to turn the actuator. You can also try it with a pair of pliers or Anything else

Recently my car got broken into and damaged the thieves couldn’t steal my car because my abs sensors was broken off cause my engine failure couldn’t accelerate now it was no power to the engine….thats another problem and issue but basically my question is the two pins behind the wheel that you bang out are they circled or they are actually screws because my 2016 Kia looks kinda different like it had after market work on it
