Great video. Thank you, I used it step by step to get into front end service mode. When I pulled the modular front end out, I couldn't find bolts to screw in to hold the weight and prevent it from coming out to far. So, I pulled it out and installed the "crash bolt" back in to the bottom with the back hole and the front nut. This gave me plenty of room and worked great. Just a tip for other watchers, if they read this.

Another well done job and great description of how to go about things I nearly took the head off mine thinking it was the main gasket until I spotted water seeping out of the Oil Filter Mounting where it joins the block. Still new to working on Minis and learning more and more as each day passes and again your Videos are a big help. Thank goodness for RU-vid and guys like you who contribute their skills and time to make these Videos thank you.

Thank you for this video. Excellent narration, especially tool & bolt sizing info as you go through the process. Excellent quality of your video and lighting. I was going to install a Blue Ox baseplate plate to tow my 2009 R56 behind our RV. After viewing your video, given the amount of labor overlap on the front clip removal to install the baseplate, you have convinced me to be proactive and do this now, as I can tell from my top banjo bolt that it is starting to seep.

This video has proven to be very helpful. I have the iPad set up in the garage ( on the edge of the wifi signal) and am playing the video as I work. Rewind, look again, etc, etc. I am really surprised how easily the lower tube began to move once I started to strike it with the BFH. I was sure it would be rust welded in place, yet it was not.

Did this at the weekend following your video. You've saved me £000's. Thanks so much! Couple of tweaks/recommendationa: 1. Would be helpful to put in snap shots of some clips i.e. bumper grille after out so people can visualise). 2. As you have clearance you can just unplug o2 sensor instead of having a prolonged fight with it. 3. I also dropped out oil cooler housing and replaced the gaskets in the middle too to avoid having to do it all again. Thanks again though! AWESOME!

Thanks for posting this video. It helped me very much to know what was involved in replacing the Oil Line and OFH Gasket on my R55 Mini Clubman S. But, I did not have the nerve to take the front of the Mini apart to put it in Service Mode. I saw another video showing it was possible to do this without using Service Mode. Actually it was not too bad and I managed to get all of the heat shield bolts back on too. Just have to take your time then move and tie back all of the wires around the OFH to get it out - there was a surprising amount of room and the OFH came out easily. Thanks again for doing this video.

@malp6280 4 года назад
nice upload!! as it brings back some horrible memories of when I replaced my gaskets!!! noteworthy comment! you don't really need to remove the bumper "service mod" to do this job, the most difficult bolt to bet to is the bolt found on the upper-side of the filter housing (under the turbo hard to see "not impossible" but difficult to get tools into remove/refit etc) you should really remove the housing from the car to replace the gaskets as you can then clean the engine & filter housing! also the housing has a gasket between its 2 halfs which can also leak! this gasket/s has been missed in this video!! (my gasket was just as shown here ie hard & brittle/split that goes for all of them changed) I upgraded the turbo feed line to a stainless braided line via mamba & its certainly worth the money, they can be found on amazon & ebay. also another benefit would be to add heat reflective covers to the oil feed line & to the exhaust heat shield in the areas of the rear shield & the side facing the filter housing.. adding heat lagging to the downpipe "decat" would also reduce the radiate heat that could effect/promote the new gaskets to deterioration from the added heat from the exhaust decat… anyway good video as always, anyone tacking this job!!! erm good luck its annoying especially if you've not got a car lift.

2010 R56 Mini S. owner since Feb 2021 at 78,200 miles. Disaster car since 78,400 miles. Timing Chain went(2,400 dealer price). replaced that and water pump. New battery. AC condenser went in July. replaced that. Then at 81k miles, clutch went bad(2,700 dealer price). Replaced that too. Clutch(965.00) and Timing chain(550 for tools and kit), I did via RU-vid and saved about 4,500. This car has also had a valve cover replacement, new air intake, new intercooler, new coolant reservoir, Thermostat housing and front windshield. Money Pit is the best way to describe this $8,900 car that was supposed to be a fun, cheap car. Now, had oil leak and my local Mini dealer says the gasket is bad and to replace it and the feed line together. $2,044 for parts(522), labor(1406) and taxes(115). Got you line feed tube for $57 and got another gasket from parts geek for $27 w shipping. Gonna tackle this in the next week or 2. Really struggling on replacing the Turbo since its right there but another $600 bucks is a bit much. In just 2 short years, I've take this car apart so many times the bolts are worn out on the bumper and headlights!!! Mini also wanted to replace my sensors in all 4 tires and that price is 517 for parts and labor. What a scam. After this repair, should I sell it???

Hey mod mini, been watching a lot of your videos recently and they've helped me learn a lot. Just a question about R56s, are the pre facelift ones much worse for reliability? I've heard the N14 can have some problems and wondering about particularly pre facelift r56 JCW. Also what are the changes to note between pre and post facelift r56?
@ModMINI
@ModMINI 4 года назад
The biggest issue is the timing chain and excessively long oil change interval recommendations from factory, which might lead to premature oil seal hardening. Any N14 still on the road today will have had the chain issue finally resolved. Check for evidence of regular oil changes / pride of ownership and you'll probably have a more trouble free car.

I don't know how often you check these, but I'll try. I have 2010 s. Had a dead cylinder do to carbon. Had the head gone though. Replace pan, crank seal, valve cover, oil filter housing gaskets. Also the rubber and steel hoses from turbo. The car now runs great but it sat for weeks not a drop of oil on the floor. I drive it and it leaves a decent puddle underneath. Was there more gaskets in the oil housing I should have replaced or replace the whole housing? But it's weird it doesn't leak all the time . Great helpful videos

oil filter housing is two piece design with gasket between block and housing and between housing and intercooler. Will also leak if any foreign material or problem with the job. The turbo feed line should also be replaced and banjo bolt correctly tightened.

Thanks very much for this video, I am going to do the head gasket but helps a lot with taking off the turbo and changing the gaskets. It looks a lot easier if the radiator is taken off, do you suggest that would be better? I am changing the coolant anyway. Also, thanks for the tip with the headlights, it's been a real pain with that bolt.

Just put into front end service mode, no need to remove radiator.

I am, as I type this, right in the middle of this job. Point of information. It really helps, after the bumper fascia is removed, but before one starts moving the front assembly forward, to remove the two torx 25 that hold the windshield washer fluid. The bottom of the reservoir has a nipple that sits in a deep hole. Remove the two torx, pop the reservoir nipple out of the holder and suspend the reservoir with a bungee cord. Now the front assembly will not be hung up by the reservoir, and it will move freely.

Just bought a 2013 Countryman S with 123k miles and all routine maintenance done by a BMW dealer. A couple weeks after purchase (and knowing it was on the dealer's lot for a few months with very little driving) a small coolant leak appeared which I have deduced is coming from the oil housing gasket. Seeing your video makes me confident I could do all of that once I gather all the necessary tools and jack stands because I don't have a garage and will need to do this in my driveway. If I have a coolant leak in the oil housing gasket, is it the same gaskets you showed in the video, or is that a separate unit? Also, after posting in a FB group, someone recommended Blue Devil for the coolant leak, so I'm curious to know your thoughts on that. For context, I bought this car just for fun and don't foresee driving it cross-country or hundreds and hundreds of miles at a time. I have my regular car I will mostly drive and don't necessarily intend to have the Mini for the next 10 years. I would like to attempt this replacement mainly to familiarize myself with the engine a bit more and get more comfortable when the time comes to do another repair on my own. And it'll be nice to know I can save some $$$ here and there and avoid a mechanic if it's something that can fairly easily be done on my own. Any additional tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Help! I tried this, and now I am getting a camshaft error I think, I ended up bringing to a mechanic where they said the engine needs to be replaced now, did I mess it up that bad if it wasn't installed properly? Or is it possible there might have been a sensor I didn't install back correctly?
