would you not recommend a high volume standard pressure Melling pump for a street 390? Always thought that more volume was better. This is only my 2nd build so wasnt sure. Thanks for the video.
Was cleaning up closet n found a new oil pan and oil pump w screen, so I guess I have something to do to the Mustang. Yay! Question, do I have to prime it after install? I've been driving the car.
@@AlfsMustangGarage ah ok. So after the install, let the gaskets dry a day, fill with oil, remove distributor, prime, reinstall distributor, turn on engine as normal
I just did this job on a 390 in a 64 T-bird in the car and it is not so easy. you actually can't take the oil pan off without first dropping the pump into the pan. Going the other way to reinstall the pump with the pan mostly in place and get the driveshaft in correctly was quite difficult. Be warned. thanks
You can just remove the pickup tube and drop it in the pan.. tie a string to the tube, drop tube in pan and lift tube up to install after you have slid the pan in part way. I can't see how you could possibly lift that oil pump up out of the pan and install it with the pan partially in place. how could you even line up the shaft when you can't see it with the pan in the way?
