always enjoy your content. i've read that while a standard pump is fine for most applications that using a h/d pump shaft is the way to go. also, in what situations besides during a rebuild would you recommend installing a new pump?

Oh I would probably say maybe on an engine that has been sitting for a long time or if one is just worn out.

Hi again, forgot to ask you your take on Heat crossover ports. Cover or leave open? I made stainless .015 thick sheet stock cut to size to cover ports on head side under gasket but have second thoughts on using them. Runs great with having them open like I found them. Thanks!!!

@@AlfsMustangGarage I got lucky Alex with that nut that went down an open oil return in the lifter galley. I thought I heard a ping sound right after it fell down there. Was hoping it made it down into the oil pan. My magnet was too big to get it past the cam gear. Was gonna remove the oil pan but no way. Header, starter and stearing all in the way. Ordered a 25" small end magnet with brass sides fished it past the cam gear down distributor and on 3rd try up came the nut. I had the lifter valley covered with a large bath towel but took it off and should not have done that. Live and learn.

Wow! Definitely lucked out there on that one. At least you had the awareness to know what you did and know you have to fish that out before you go any further.

When the motor is in the car, can you get the oil pan off without raising the motor?

Good stuff! I wonder how many of those pump bolts get the old German torque spec of gutentight over the years.

@@AlfsMustangGarage doing alright - suspension, brakes, wheels/tires are on. Next major thing is a Borgeson unit & steering components. Then too much money on an engine build 😂

I once put a high volume oil pump on till It kept chewing up my camshaft gears. If you do put one on, I would suggest not to go with a mechanical one!

great video are these oil pump driveshafts able to be fed from the top while in the car? dist pulled mine out and i heard it fall and ping off something. dreading pulling the engine on my 82 gt

Oh geeze well I've been there before. I have been able to pull the shafts out with a magnet and with lots of patience get them back in. However, it may not be as easy with a dual sump oil pan. Sometimes it's unfortunate, but you may have to pull that pan off.

@@AlfsMustangGarage me and the apprentice went magnet fishing after work. I couldn't seem to find it anywhere, tried through front oil pan sump drain aswell. I know it hit the pan or something metal maybe front timing cover? anyways she's at the shop hopefully not to busy tomorrow and I can some how get that pan off and pump off without much of a tear down.. appreciate your response!

@@AlfsMustangGarage so close but im bottomed out with the cherry i need like a 1/4'' more above the k frame , gonna work with what ive got. not worth all this for pulling the pan just to clean it.. i can do it where it is now
